There are four main strategic documents which guide our actions and structure our interactions with employers and other stakeholders. These strategic documents are: The Education Improvement Plan (EIP) - this plan details our strategy for addressing the needs of young people in school aged 3-19. The Policy Statement on Skills (PSS) and Skills Implementation Plan (SIP) - both provide a focus on developing a sustainable and competitive skills system for Wales which incorporates Further and Higher Education, Work-based Learning, Regional Skills Partnerships, employers and their representative bodies. The Higher Education Policy Statement - this document details the support we will offer to learners in Universities aged over 18. The Adult and Community Learning Policy - this strategy is currently under review. There are common themes detailed within each of the above strategic documents which are in line with our commitments contained within the Programme for Government. These common themes are: Jobs and growth Equity and equality Financial sustainability International benchmarking Further, the CBI report ‘First Steps’ is a point of reference for the Department. The report sets out the business view on the reforms that are needed to make a successful education system, drawing on international examples and underpinned by a set of core principles. -

They include many widespread European species that are introduced elsewhere (at least half of the 36 currently recorded British species are established in North America, for example). To test the contention that the British and Irish fauna consists of 36 species, and to verify the identity of each, a species delimitation study was conducted based on a geographically wide survey. Comparisons between mitochondrial DNA (COI, 16S), nuclear DNA (ITS-1) and morphology were investigated with reference to interspecific hybridisation. Species delimitation of the fauna produced a primary species hypothesis of 47 putative species. This was refined to a secondary species hypothesis of 44 species by integration with morphological and other data. Thirty six of these correspond to the known fauna (two species in Arion subgenus Carinarion were scarcely distinct and Arion (Mesarion) subfuscus consisted of two near-cryptic species). However, by the same criteria a further eight previously undetected species (22% of the fauna) are established in Britain and/or Ireland. Although overlooked, none are strictly morphologically cryptic, and some appear previously undescribed. Most of the additional species are probably accidentally introduced, and several are already widespread in Britain and Ireland (and thus perhaps elsewhere). -

This was an increase of 110,804 on 2017/18. 2013/14 2014/15 2015/16 2016/17 2017/18 2018/19 Visits 1,629,196 1,685,954 1,674,807 1,549,603 1,776,572 1,887,376 This once again cements the success of the policy of free entry policy to the national museums in Wales, which was introduced by the Welsh Government in 2001/02. Visitor figures in 2018/19 were 147% higher than they were before this policy. In October, we made history with the completion of the £30m redevelopment of St Fagans National Museum of History, a project that was made possible with significant support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Welsh Government, as well as gifts from trusts, foundations and individuals. -

Fitzalan High School Ysgol Uwchradd Fitzalan ANNUAL GOVERNORS’ REPORT TO PARENTS 2014/2015 Letter from the Chair of Governors Fitzalan High School I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and look forward to Lawrenny Avenue another successful year for Fitzalan. Cardiff Fitzalan pupils have continued to buck national trends by improving their A2 CF11 8XB and AS results for the 4th year running. Over 92% of year 13 students secured 2 or more A* - E grades with pleasing results achieved at AS. The school is particularly delighted that their first ever Oxbridge applicant, Tel No: 029 2023 2850 Mohamed Eghleilib has secured his place at Pembroke College, Oxford to Fax: 029 2087 7800 study medicine by achieving an outstanding 4 A* grades in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Arabic and Welsh Baccalaureate (WBQ). E-mail: [email protected] Notable other successes were Head girl Laila Nazzal who achieved an A* in History and As in English, Psychology and WBQ as well as an A grade in AS Polish. She will now study International relations at Cardiff University. Andrew Boczek secured an A* in Biology as well as A grades in Chemistry, Maths and WBQ. Amongst the highest achievers at AS were Connie Wu who achieved an impressive 4 A grades along with Raihan Azad and Livvy Forrest who both secured 3 A grades. Fitzalan pupils have continued to excel with over 83% achieving 5 A*-C grades. All the hard work has paid off and staff and students are delighted with the results of their efforts. Over a dozen pupils secured 8 or more A*s with our top boy Jack Cicero obtaining an impressive 12 A*s and our top girl Asia Dirie achieving 10 A*s. -

Set on the E side of the road within 2.5 acres of garden. History Cottage built in 1907 in vernacular style. Said to be by Lutyens and his assistant Oswald Milne. The house was commissioned by Lord Rhondda owner of nearby Pencoed Castle for his niece, Charlotte Haig, daughter of Earl Haig. The gardens are said to have been laid out by Gertrude Jekyll, under restoration at the time of survey (September 1995) Exterior Two storey cottage. Reed thatched roof with decorative blocked ridge. Elevations of coursed rubble with some random use of terracotta tile. "E" plan. Picturesque cottage composition, multi-paned casement windows and painted planked timber doors. Two axial ashlar chimneys, one lateral, large red brick rising from ashlar base adjoining front door with pots. Crest on lateral chimney stack adjacent to front door presumably that of the Haig family. The second chimney is constructed of coursed rubble with pots. To the left hand side of the front elevation there is a catslide roof with a small pair of casements and boarded door. Design incorporates gabled and hipped ranges and pent roof dormers. Interior Simple cottage interior, recently modernised. Planked doors to ground floor. Large "inglenook" style fireplace with oak mantle shelf to principal reception room, with simple plaster border to ceiling. -
