Jardine and Hamilton Driving World Class Rally Forum and Mitsubishi in Circuit of Ireland Rally For Immediate Release 27 March 2012 JARDINE AND HAMILTON DRIVING WORLD CLASS RALLY FORUM AND MITSUBISHI IN CIRCUIT OF IRELAND RALLY Sky Sports News’ F1 analyst Tony Jardine will be teaming up with BBC Radio 5 Live’s Maurice Hamilton to enter the 2012 Donnelly Group Circuit of Ireland Rally (taking place on 6-7 April). To celebrate the third round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) coming to Armagh, a public Rally Forum hosted by media man and rally competitor Jardine will be held at the Armagh City Hotel on Wednesday 4 April at 20:00hrs. Fans will get to meet rally superstars and bosses including Andreas Mikklesen, Kris Meeke, Craig Breen, Gerard Quinn, Malcolm Wilson, Maurice Hamilton and Jimmy McRae. Jardine and Hamilton will be competing over the Easter weekend in the MIS Motorsport backed and ProSpeed run Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX owned by Northern Ireland’s Raymond Mason. Jardine placed this car 35th overall last November in Wales on the final round of the 2011 World Rally Championship (WRC). Now switching from gravel to Irish tarmac stages, the team’s Kumho tyres will first see action around Belfast’s docks where the world-famous Titanic was built over 100 years ago and where the opening stage will be held. The Circuit of Ireland Rally is one of the oldest rallies in the world, with big names such as Colin McRae and Paddy Hopkirk having won there and the likes of Hannu Mikkola and Henri Toivonen having contested these Emerald Isle stages. In 2012, there will be a total of 15 stages, with the ceremonial start in Belfast City Centre on Friday 6 April at approximately 15:00hrs before the rally heads to the Titanic Quarter for the Super Special Stage. Directly following this will be two more stages (each run twice) on sweeping tarmac roads in County Tyrone before the competitors then arrive in Armagh (60 miles southwest of Belfast) for an overnight halt at the end of day one. Day two starts in Armagh on Saturday with a service at 08:00hrs and consists of 10 demanding stages in the counties of Down and Armagh, including a power stage in the City of Lisburn (9 miles west of Belfast). The rally will finish in Armagh at 19:00hrs. The media duo of Jardine and Hamilton is a successful rallying partnership having previously notched up numerous class wins and podium finishes on national rallies, 28th overall on the 2008 Topaz Donegal Rally in a Skoda WRC car, and 35th overall and first in class on the 2002 Network Q Rally of Great Britain in an MG ZR. Jardine can’t wait to get back in the Mitsubishi and commented, “It’s a quick and reliable Raymond Mason car tended by Olly Marshall and the ProSpeed team so it should perform well on the tarmac stages. Maurice is from Bangor and this will be his second time competing on home soil as my trusty co-driver. I always look forward to rallying in Ireland and think it should be a challenging, but fun event for us. The Chief Executive of MIS Motorsport, Dermot Hanafin – who is himself a former and successful Irish rally driver - will be following our progress enthusiastically by helicopter, so I’d better make sure I have MIS branding on the roof of our car!” To keep up-to-date on the team’s progress throughout the Circuit of Ireland Rally, follow the team on Twitter: @Jardine_Int and join the millions of viewers that will be tuning in to watch the live coverage on Eurosport. -Ends- For further information or to request images please contact Jardine International on +44 (0) 20 8607 3900. Don’t forget that DAC meets every Wednesday at the Honest Lawyer Hotel between Durham and Croxdale. Editorial I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Julian Porters talk at Bishop Auckland Golf Club last Wednesday (12th December) I don’t think there is anyone who has as much knowledge of the Championship as Julian and we as a club are extremely fortunate that he was able to give us some of his valuable time to provide a fantastic insight into the WRC. It was also great to see so many club members and visitors from other clubs attend. I was also quite taken with the venue, and I understand that the catering was also of a very high standard (damn diet!!!) For special events such as this and the Dinner Dance, providing the costs are not too prohibitive, I would say that it is an ideal venue.

Congratulations to them for a very consistent performance throughout the year and a well deserved award for the hard working car. Editorial Welcome to the second Bulletin of 2016. The Triple-M scene is already up and running and a number of events will be history by the time you read this. I should probably explain why the last Bulletin was late in arriving and why this edition may also be late. The February/March edition was the first produced using new software, a move that was forced on us and meant that Bob could no longer do his editorial magic. It has been a steep learning curve and all the hard work has been done by Lyn Handy who has the misfortune to work with me and made the mistake of showing an interest in the process of producing the Bulletin. She is also an MG owner, albeit a ‘modern’ MGF Trophy. To make up for the lack of UK events through the winter we have another taste of MG life in Australia. This time we have an excellent report from our President on his visit to the Bathurst event last year.

  • John Mulholland Motors Ulster Rally How Can This Be The
The Loudon-clear guide to… John Mulholland Motors Ulster Rally How can this be the penultimate round of the British Rally Championship already? After a year away, the successful return of British rallying’s top flight has been the talk of 2016. The final two chapters both involve the Irish Sea. The last round runs on one of world motorsport’s most famous islands, the Isle of Man, but this week we’re overflying Douglas for a second trip of the season to Northern Ireland and the Ulster Rally. This rally offers a similar challenge to that of round two, the Circuit of Ireland, with the winner needing to find that perfect blend of speed and precision in what are likely to be some of the most changeable conditions and grip levels of the season. All eyes will, of course, be on Elfyn Evans as he chases a second British title for the Evans’ household, following father Gwyndaf’s 1996 success. But it’s also well worth keeping an eye on what’s certain to be another enthralling installment of the Junior BRC battle as homegrown heroes Rob Duggan and Gus Greensmith attempt to stave off the Nordic challenge of Sindre Furuseth and Mattias Adielsson. The BRITISH MOTORSPORT MARSHALS CLUB SAFER MOTOR SPORT MOTOR SPORTS ASSOCIATION RECOGNISED FOUNDED 1957 Issue 5 May. 2021 Circuit of Ireland Memories. NORTHERN IRELAND REGION MAGAZINE Issue No. 5 May . 2021. Cover Story. Sorting through some old photo’s , several taken by my late mate’s Don McCurdy and Peter, brought back memories of early adventures on the Circuit. I was aware that prior to 1980 Don and Peter had , in Don’s tuned 1000 cc Mini travelled to Killarney as timekeepers , sleeping in the car at night and covering as many daylight stages as possible . Hero’s ! Anyone involved in the 1970’s/1980’s will recall just how tough the 5 day Circuit was. WRC Champion Markku Alen on his first visit to the Circuit complained it was too tough after his Fiat Abarth 131 ran out of tyres by the Sunday run. I well remember the years when convoy’s of marshal’s and spectators , sometimes as many of 50 cars raced ahead of the rally , I admit , at sometimes ,silly speeds to keep up with the event , sleepless nights , and on one occasion when Peter and myself where doing radio control so far up a mountain we never actually saw the cars. Three Circuits stand out. First 1984 starting and finishing in Belfast. For 1984 the U.A.C. had for the first time in years scrapped the Sunday Killarney run ( had County Kerry got too greedy ?) and introduced new stages round Dublin and Athlone. We worked on the Friday evening stages before a couple of hours sleep and off to the South to view stages at Malahide Dublin and then a very strange stage which would become the Rallycross track at Mondello.
