Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park lies on the traditional lands of the Bunurong People. Parks Victoria and DELWP acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land that this report relates to, the Bunurong People, and recognises their continuing connection to this park and ongoing role in caring for Country. 2 Victoria's Great Outdoors Introduction As part of the $105.6 million commitment to online workshop. Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park is on the land of the Bunurong People. The name of the park honours one of five clan groups of the Bunurong Traditional Owners, the Yallock-Bulluk clan, who occupied the broader Bass Coast Region and continue to care for Country. The Victorian Government is drafting an Access and Infrastructure Plan for a trail inside the park that links San Remo to Inverloch. The plan is being developed in partnership between Parks Victoria, Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, Bass Coast Shire Council, and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). The Access and Infrastructure Plan will be informed by stakeholder and community engagement, alongside a range of technical studies. The first phase of community consultation was held in between 8 May and 28 June 2020. Participants contributed through: – Survey responses to the Engage Victoria platform (8 May- 28 June) – Online Community Information Sessions (20 May, 28 May and 4 June) – An online workshop (20 June). Additional feedback was sought through a targeted survey for young people between 10-31 July 2020. 98 people responded to this survey, and 6 students from Korumburra Secondary College participated in a workshop on 19 August 2020. The consultation was promoted through social media, media releases, emails to stakeholders and posters in shop windows in the townships near the new park. Participants could also contact the engagement team through email or telephone to have a say. Several organisations and some individuals made submissions to inform the Access and Infrastructure Plan. Figure 1: Timeline of consultation and planning of Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park 4 Victoria's Great Outdoors Previous engagement This engagement was informed by feedback that was previously provided during engagement in 2019. The 2019 engagement focused on the creation of the park and sought high-level feedback. The engagement was conducted in June and July of 2019 and included: • A roundtable event • Five Open House sessions • Meetings with partners and stakeholders. The themes that emerged from the 2019 engagement included: • Strong importance to protect environmental and cultural values • Need to provide greater visitor access • An appetite for good community engagement, and • A strong interest in the proposed extension of the George Bass Coastal Walk. The findings from the 2019 engagement were used to plan this consultation, in particular the feedback given about extending the George Bass Coastal Walk. This engagement is the first stage of engagement on the Access and Infrastructure plan (Figure 1). Penny Manning was re-elected as treasurer, I retained the convenor position, Dallas Wyatt declined re-election as secretary and Sue Woolley has now filled this position. A big thank you to Dallas for all the hard work he has done in the past year. Fortunately Dallas remains on the committee as do Nola Thorpe and Gordon Barrett. A very big thank you to long time committee members John Adam and Helen Dennis who have both resigned. Their contributions to the committee meetings will be sorely missed. We still have vacancies on the committee and we would like to hear from you if you are interested.

    Help Shape a Better Bass Coast Community Engagement – Paths, Trails and Footpaths Inverloch and Cape Paterson Complete the concrete pathway to the Inverloch surf club before someone is run over by a car Add a cycle path/lane to the Cape Pat-Inverloch road Footpaths in Inverloch on every road and bins at beach exits Sort the walking/ bike path to Cape Paterson out as a high priority. It's one of the missing links in growing tourism and would provide another health and wellbeing option for the locals. The section along surf parade and up to the RACV Club entrance. Finish the footpath from Ayr Creek to Invy Surf Beach Inverloch needs more FOOTPATHS up near the highway end of town! There's nothing worse than having to use a mobility scooter on the road.... It's frightening! Not to mention it's actually illegal! So come on how about paving the place!! - Also please extend the walking track along Surf Pde Inverloch. Invest in footpaths in Inverloch down Toorak Road. This a community that likes to walk and exercise and people's safety is at risk as they walk with prams, run and walk into town along the road, as they have no other option. Invest some of our capital works budget in the wellbeing and safety of residents and visitors. There are nature strips on either side so no reason why this cannot be achieved - Jan Martin (resident and ratepayer) This should be a high priority as Toorak Road carries a lot of pedestrian traffic. With sun glare and shade cast by trees it is extremely dangerous as drivers have difficulty spotting pedestrians as well as keeping their eye on traffic and parked vehicles.

    Captain Matthew Flinders (1774~1814) Captain Matthew Flinders was born 16 March, 1774. He was one of the most successful cartographers and navigators of his time. In a career that only spanned twenty years he circumnavigated Australia, proved Tasmania was an island and was the person responsible for the name “Australia” being adopted. Born in Lincolnshire, England, Matthew Flinders was introduced to the sea through reading the book Robinson Crusoe. Coming from a family of doctors, Flinders was expected to follow the same profession, but at the age of 15 he joined the Royal Navy. By 1790, Flinders had been made a midshipman and worked transporting breadfruit from Tahiti to Jamaica where he developed his navigation skills under the leadership of Captain Bligh. Flinders first trip to Port Jackson, New South Wales was in 1795 as a midshipman. On this voyage he quickly proved himself as a fine navigator and cartographer. He also became friends with the ship’s surgeon George Bass. Not long after arriving in Port Jackson, Bass and Flinders made two small expeditions in small open boats, both named Tom Thumb. Their first journey was to Botany Bay and Georges River; the second south from Port Jackson to Lake Illawarra . These journeys allowed Flinders to upgrade the maps of the New South Wales coast. In 1798 Flinders was given command of the ship, Norfolk and given orders to investigate beyond the Furneaux’s Islands and explore the extent of the strait between the mainland and Van Diemen's Land ( now known as Tasmania). Flinders and Bass journeyed through the strait and circumnavigated Van Diemen's Land, proving that it was a separate island.

The arrival of two living Samoan Fruit-doves Ptilinopus fasciatus on 7 June 1803 in the harbour of Le Hâvre, France with the return of one of the Baudin expeditionary vessels, the Naturaliste, marked the arrival of the first live birds from the tropical Pacific in Europe. More specimens from the tropical Pacific followed on 24 March 1804 when the second Baudin vessel, the Géographe, arrived at Lorient, France. The person responsible for collecting these birds was – most likely – George Bass (1771–1803), who donated these specimens to the ex- pedition commanded by Nicolas Baudin at Port Jackson, Australia in November 1802. This paper documents Bass’s bird collecting activities, his 1801–02 voyage, the role of the Baudin expedition and the Muséum National d’His- toire naturelle in Paris (e.g., donation, exchanges), and it documents the history of bird collecting in the tropical Pacific – on locations visited by Bass – pre-1823.
