Contemporary Folk Week, July 24-30, 2016
36 24-30 Contemporary Folk Week celebrates our 25th Anniversary with a world-class staff of returning artist/instructors including our first Master Music Maker, folk legend Tom Paxton and the timeless artistry of Janis Ian. We’re honored to also welcome back favorites from last year and previous years including Grammy-winners Kathy Mattea, Jon Vezner, and Don Henry, folk stalwarts Ellis Paul, Cliff Eberhardt and Amy Speace, vocal coaches Siobhan Quinn and Danny Ellis, and music theory guru Ray Chesna. We welcome an exciting new addition to this year’s staff in one of the leading lights in today’s contemporary folk scene, the wonderful Mary Gauthier. Drawing on tradition and innovation, our instructors bring a world of practical and imaginative experience to help you create and perform the music that makes your heart sing. Whether you’re trying out material at a local ‘open mike’, a performer with some experience, a working musician looking for some help in reaching your next goal, or someone who would simply like to feel more confident pulling that guitar out in front of others, we’re here to help, and our foundations are support, fun, and community. Our top-notch staff, knowledgeable in the various aspects of both the art and business of contemporary acoustic music, can help you achieve your goals. In addition, our limited enrollment and small campus encourage community-building at its best – frequent and informal interaction between students and staff, all doing our utmost to ensure that you go home energized and empowered to make the most of your music in hands-on and meaningful ways. -

ANNUAL REPORT 2019/20 Fadi Kheir Fadi LETTERS from the LEADERSHIP
ANNUAL REPORT 2019/20 Fadi Kheir Fadi LETTERS FROM THE LEADERSHIP The New York Philharmonic’s 2019–20 season certainly saw it all. We recall the remarkable performances ranging from Berlioz to Beethoven, with special pride in the launch of Project 19 — the single largest commissioning program ever created for women composers — honoring the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Together with Lincoln Center we unveiled specific plans for the renovation and re-opening of David Geffen Hall, which will have both great acoustics and also public spaces that can welcome the community. In March came the shock of a worldwide pandemic hurtling down the tracks at us, and on the 10th we played what was to be our final concert of the season. Like all New Yorkers, we tried to come to grips with the life-changing ramifications The Philharmonic responded quickly and in one week created NY Phil Plays On, a portal to hundreds of hours of past performances, to offer joy, pleasure, solace, and comfort in the only way we could. In August we launched NY Phil Bandwagon, bringing live music back to New York. Bandwagon presented 81 concerts from Chris Lee midtown to the far reaches of every one of the five boroughs. In the wake of the Erin Baiano horrific deaths of Black men and women, and the realization that we must all participate to change society, we began the hard work of self-evaluation to create a Philharmonic that is truly equitable, diverse, and inclusive. The severe financial challenge caused by cancelling fully a third of our 2019–20 concerts resulting in the loss of $10 million is obvious. -

Blues Rock Star Joe Bonamassa Announces Highly Anticipated New Studio Album
BLUES-ROCK STAR JOE BONAMASSA ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE "TIME CLOCKS" TAKEN FROM HIS NEW STUDIO ALBUM 'TIME CLOCKS' TO BE RELEASED OCT 29 PRE-ORDER “TIME CLOCKS” https://smarturl.it/JoeB-MLG LISTEN TO THE “TIME CLOCKS” SINGLE HERE: https://smarturl.it/JoeBonamassa WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR “TIME CLOCKS” HERE: https://youtu.be/Z7116ryQV-I Guitar legend Joe Bonamassa today reveals his stunningly sweeping new single, "Time Clocks." This is the third song taken from his forthcoming brand-new studio album of the same name, released on October 29 via Provogue (Europe) and J&R Adventures (North America). Joe continues his soul-searching evolution on this beautifully poignant Bonamassa-Shirley penned song. At just over seven minutes long, it has all the epic musical grandeur of him at his most expressive and ambitious. With a heart on sleeve narrative weaving its way throughout, the rousing chorus rises to the heavens as he sings, "and the rain soaking through my coat, about to capsize my boat I push it along away from the docks, I was never a good puncher of time clocks." Backed with cascading vocals from Juanita Tippins and Prinnie Stevens, as well as the supreme musicianship of Anton Fig (Drums), Steve Mackey (Bass), Lachy Doley (Piano/Organ) and Kevin Shirley (Percussion), it has an aura of pure timelessness. The album was recorded in New York City and took Joe back to his early roots and rediscovers him at a newfound peak with an unparalleled Blues Rock prowess. Known as the man in the suit, loved by many as the ultimate guitar hero, and cited by critics as "the world's biggest blues guitarist" (Guitar World), somehow the music mastermind has found yet another layer of immense new artistry to share with his fans. -
2012 Buskirk-Chumley Theater Annual Report
2012 CRAFTING THE CONVERSATION 2012 marked ten full years of BCT Management, Inc.’s leadership in operating the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. In addition, December brought the 90th anniversary of former Indiana Theater’s existence as a gathering place in downtown Bloomington. It was a time for reflecting on how far we’ve come, building for the future, and celebrating the connections we’ve made along the way. Beginning in 1922, the history of our community theater is an inspiring tale of individual vision, cooperative struggle, and ongoing communication between Bloomington and rest of the world. Facilitating that dialogue is at core of our mission. Our mission is accomplished in thousands of day-to-day actions. As an organization, 2012 brought strong focus on aligning every moment and task with our greater goals. Staff re-organization that began in January reminded us of the concept of the “lean, mean, fighting machine.” In our efforts to provide patrons and promoter partners the best possible facility and service at the least expense, we pared down overhead and streamlined technology in a variety of areas. However, our goals are not about combat, but conversation. Over the course of these twelve months, I believe we’ve transformed to a “lean, green, accessible machine,” which functions smoothly for the benefit of the whole community. We’re so grateful for the dedication and support of all our partners. The strong numbers represented in these pages reflect more than ten years of investment from individuals, businesses, organizations and public entities. Together, we’ve built a place for all, where sharing our stories is at the heart of the matter. -
SOUL ASYLUM Biography by Arthur Levy
SOUL ASYLUM biography by Arthur Levy “It’s a crazy mixed up world out there, Someone’s always got a gun and it’s all about money You live with loneliness, or you live with somebody who’s crazy It’s just a crazy mixed up world …” (“Crazy Mixed Up World”) Chapter 1. Every Cloud Has One Renewed and revitalized, Soul Asylum founders Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy return to rock’s front line with THE SILVER LINING, their first new studio release since 1998’s Candy From a Stranger. That album inadvertently kicked off a seven-year sabbatical for the group, which telescoped into the death of bassist Karl Mueller in June 2005, the other founding member of the triumvirate that has steered Soul Asylum through rock’s white water for the past two decades plus. The re-emergence of the group on THE SILVER LINING is as much a reaffirmation of Soul Asylum’s commitment to the music as it is a dedication to Karl, who worked and played on the album right up until the end. They were joined in the studio by not-so-new heavyweight Minneapolis drummer Michael Bland (who has played with everyone from Paul Westerberg to Prince). The band is now complemented by Tommy Stinson on bass, a member of fellow Twin Cities band the Replacements since age 13, and a pal of Dan’s since he was in high school and Tommy in junior high. Tommy was the only friend that Karl could endorse to replace himself in the band. This hard-driving lineup was introduced for the first time in October 2005, when they played sold-out showcase dates at First Avenue in Minneapolis and the Bowery Ballroom in New York – within three days. -

Juilliard Dance
Juilliard Dance Senior Graduation Concert 2019 Welcome to Juilliard Dance Senior Graduation Concert 2019 Tonight, you will experience the culmination of a transformative four-year journey for the senior class of Juilliard Dance. Through rigorous physical training and artistic and intellectual exploration, all of the fourth-year dancers have expanded the possibilities of their movement abilities, stretching beyond what they thought possible when entering the program as freshmen. They have accepted the challenge of what it means to be a generous citizen artist and hold that responsibility close to their hearts. Chosen by the dancers, the solos and duets presented tonight have been commissioned for this evening or acquired from existing repertory and staged for this singular occasion. The works represent the manifestation of an evolution of growth and the discovery of their powerfully unique artistic voices. I am immensely proud of each and every fourth-year artist; it has been a joy and an honor to get to know the senior class, a group of individuals who will inevitably change the landscape of the field of dance as it exists today. Please join me for a standing ovation, cheering on the members of the class of 2019 as they take the stage for the last time together in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Well done, dancers—we thank you for your beautiful contributions to our Juilliard community and to the world beyond our campus.
