Standard Product Group Product Warranty Period GLS 3 months Halogen 1 year CFL-i, TL, CFL-ni, CDM, Cosmopolis 1 year CFLi Tornado 12W, 15W, 20W, 24W, Warm White Lamps: 2 years (EnergyStar rated) LEDbulb range, My Ambiance Range, Hue Range 2 years Master LED Range 3 years PrimaVision CDM, PV/DV Xtreme CPO/SON/CDO 5 years Driver HFP3, HFR, Occuswitch, Occuplus, Actilume, Gear/Components/Controls: Master TL+ appropriate Philips drivers, Actilume Controls 3 years + appropriate Philips drivers Conventional 1 year Professional Luminaires: LED 3 years Roomstylers, Outerstylers, Ecomoods, Aquafit, Kidsplace, 1 year myLiving (non-LED) Consumer Luminaires: StarSpot LED, Oyster LED, Friends of Hue Range, LED Desk Lights 2 years Ledino LED Ranges, Living Colours, myBathroom 3 years LED Aquafit, Value Range Terms and conditions: • The warranty period (excluding GLS and halogen) is based on a burning time of maximum 4000 hours per year for indoor/outdoor applications and 500 hours/year for Sports applications, and switching cycles in accordance with IEC norms. • The warranty period for GLS and halogen is based on a burning time of maximum 1000 hours per year. • The warranty of eHID products are excluded from lightning strike damage except PV/DV Xtreme which has internal lightning strike protection. • This warranty only covers Products applied within their “intended” or “normal” use as defined by: - Operating conditions are in accordance with the information on the Product and its packaging; and - Ambient temperature never exceeds the operating temperature range of -20degC to +45degC; and - Relative humidity in the installation never exceeds 80% RH, or never exceeds the IP rating of the Product if any is provided; and - Products are operated in an open luminaire, with minimum 10mm air around the body of the Products; and - Products are not subjected to more than total of 20,000 fast switches (time between “on” and “off” is less than 10 minutes); and - The electrical installation in which the Product operates is not subjected to voltage fluctuations in a range exceeding 230V +/- 10%. • Products should be used within their specified tolerances in applications (e.g. temperature, water ingress and other extreme conditions, Indoor/outdoor, up-lighting/downlighting, etc.) and according to application guidelines. The warranty becomes void for defects caused by misapplication of the product. • Products have to be properly installed and operated in accordance with the manufacturer instructions and guidelines. • Philips recommends customers ensure their lighting installation is subject to a regular maintenance program by a qualified electrical contractor. • The warranty will also be voided should the customer fail to appropriately maintain their installation (eg. changing lamps or replacement of components at end of life), and according to the product specifications. • The product specification is used as the reference in assessing the justification of a warranty claim. If no product specification is available for LED luminaires, a failure can be defined as a non-functioning product or in the event that 50% of the products do not meet a minimum lumen maintenance of 70%. • Information on extended warranties for products is available on request. • For end-users who are consumers within the meaning of the Consumer Guarantee Act, 1993 this warranty is in addition to and does not replace your statutory rights and protections.     Glowing Colors Overview: Students explore how different materials absorb and emit light of different colors Essential Question: How can materials make light of different colors? Background: White light is composed of lights of different colors. Each color is carried by a light moving as a wave. Different materials reflect light of different colors, or they absorb light of other colors. If an object appears red, it because all the other colors besides red are absorbed and only red light is reflected. Some materials create light when they are energized by light, electricity, heat or by chemical reactions. This is called fluorescence. Some dyes or day-glo colors absorb light and emit a bright light of a new color like orange or yellow. Each wavelength of light carries energy. Ultraviolet light has the most energy and that is why it can give you a sunburn. A fluorescent light converts electricity into light which excites other chemicals coating the inside of the bulb which in turn create white light. Phosphorescence is a release of light that lasts for a period after the energy source is removed. Chemiluminescence is the emission of light from a chemical reaction for example the reaction of luminol with hydrogen peroxide in light sticks. Research Connection: Researchers spend much of their time manipulating chemicals and materials so they absorb or emit light in way that is needed for a device. It is desirable for solar cells to absorb all wavelengths of light so they can make full use of the solar spectrum. Similarly, LEDs can be adjusted so they emit light that matches our needs.

Background: During chemical reactions between substances energy may be released. In most cases, energy will be released in the form of heat. However, in some reactions, energy can instead be released in the form of light. In this experiment we’ll examine the phenomena known as chemiluminescence, wherein a reaction will release light but not heat. Procedure (Check off the circles as you complete): o Acquire 5 centrifuge tubes (10 mL) with caps. Label them A-E. o Acquire a small graduated cylinder. o Acquire the four dye packets, labeled: Eosin Y (Orange Dye) Rhodamine B (Red Dye) 9,10-bis(phenlethynl)anthracene (Green Dye) Fluorescein (Yellow Dye) o Measure 5 mL of Luminol into each of your 5 centrifuge tubes. o Pour the four dyes into individual centrifuge tubes; leave one centrifuge tube without dye. o Add 5 mL of 30% Hydrogen Peroxide into each centrifuge tube. o Cap the tubes tightly and shake. Safety Alert: Hydrogen Peroxide is toxic! Do not open the tube! Observations: Observe the different colors and intensities (bright, slightly bright, mostly dim, dim): Write your observations below in the tubes labeled A-E.     Long Wave Ultraviolet Sources for Mineral Collectors By Don Newsome UV SYSTEMS, Inc. 1-19-03 INTRODUCTION Mineral collectors are now faced with a choice of three different wavelengths of long wave (LW) ultraviolet (UV) sources. Two of these, which peak at approximately 350 nm and 370 nm respectively, can have quite different effects on fluorescent minerals. This is especially noticeable in the calcite cleavage rhombs from Múzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. Often lamps are not marked with their emission peak but there is a way that collectors can know whether their lamp is a 350 nm or a 370 nm lamp. Please note that I use “lamps” which is the engineering term; however others call them bulbs or tubes. I would like to propose the terms “LW350” and “LW370” for the two emissions of fluorescent ultraviolet lamps. The third wavelength is also discussed in this article. Spectral emission scans of the LW350 and LW370 lamps follow, along with charts of most of the different LW lamps on the market. By using these charts and using Mexican calcite as a discriminating test, collectors should be able to tell what wavelength of LW lamp they have. Awareness of the LW350 and LW370 distinction should also help collectors refine their own observations of mineral fluorescence. Another result of this investigation was the discovery that the Blacklight Blue (BLB) LW370 lamps available, those produced by Philips Lighting have a very low visible light component and are now recommended for fluorescent mineral displays. None of the other BLB lamps made by other manufacturers have the low visible light filters.
