  • Gramercy Park Overview: Trustees of Gramercy Park, Gramercy Park Block Association
Gramercy Park Overview: Trustees of Gramercy Park, Gramercy Park Block Association Trustees of Gramercy Park Gramercy Park is a private ornamental park and surrounding residential district created in 1831 under a deed established by Samuel B. Ruggles, who vested the title to the Park in the Trustees. Mr. Ruggles granted the owners of surrounding residential lots and all subsequent owners “the right and privilege to frequent, use, and enjoy the Park as an easement to their respective lots.” The Park is managed by the “Park Trust” which consists of five lifetime Trustees. The conditions of Ruggles’ original 1831 deed still govern the Park today. Its provisions include an annual assessment imposed on each of the Lots to cover annual operating expenses and capital improvement projects. Park keys are annually provided to the owners of each of the surrounding Lots. The buildings on the Park have between 1-4 lots based on their Park frontage. The budget includes maintenance, payroll, security, administrative services, community relations, public relations, Park operations, events, professional fees, horticultural plants and bulbs, tree/shrub planting and care, supplies, repairs and/or restoration of the following: sidewalks, monuments, sprinkler system, equipment, benches, etc. The Gramercy Park Block Association Mr. Ruggles could not have imagined that his small residential community of Lot owners would eventually be home to over 2,000 residents. Nor could he have envisioned that Gramercy Park would be at the center of some of the densest neighborhoods and most desirable real estate in the world. The Gramercy Park Block Association organizes the community to fight battles to keep the Park private, and the surrounding lots residential.

  • Report: Federal Houses Landmarked Or Listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places 1999
GREENWICH VILLAGE SOCIETY FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION Making the Case Federal Houses Landmarked or Listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places 1999-2016 The many surviving Federal houses in Lower Manhattan are a special part of the heritage of New York City. The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation has made the documentation and preservation of these houses an important part of our mission. This report highlights the Society’s mission in action by showing nearly one hundred fifty of these houses in a single document. The Society either proposed the houses in this report for individual landmark designation or for inclusion in historic districts, or both, or has advocated for their designation. Special thanks to Jiageng Zhu for his efforts in creating this report. 32 Dominick Street, built c.1826, landmarked in 2012 Federal houses were built between ca. 1790 to ca. 1835. The style was so named because it was the first American architectural style to emerge after the Revolutionary War. In elevation and plan, Federal Period row houses were quite modest. Characterized by classical proportions and almost planar smoothness, they were ornamented with simple detailing of lintels, dormers, and doorways. These houses were typically of load bearing masonry construction, 2-3 stories high, three bays wide, and had steeply pitched roofs. The brick facades were laid in a Flemish bond which alternated a stretcher and a header in every row. All structures in this report were originally built as Federal style houses, though

  • Icp Focuses on Its Future Signs Deal with Delancey Street Associates to House Its Museum and School at Essex Crossing
MEDIA RELEASE ICP FOCUSES ON ITS FUTURE SIGNS DEAL WITH DELANCEY STREET ASSOCIATES TO HOUSE ITS MUSEUM AND SCHOOL AT ESSEX CROSSING Lower East Side Unification Slated for Completion in 2019 NEW YORK, NY (OCTOBER 2017) – The International Center of Photography (ICP), the world’s leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture, today revealed its plans to reunite the ICP Museum and ICP School in one location on the Lower East Side. The center will be housed on Ludlow Street and will serve as the cultural anchor of Essex Crossing, a $1.5 billion mixed-use project. Essex Crossing is being developed by Delancey Street Associates, which comprises Taconic Investment Partners, BFC Partners, and L+M Development Partners. The ICP School, which serves more than 3,500 students each year, will make the move downtown in summer 2019. The ICP Museum will also shift from its current space at 250 Bowery to Essex Crossing in early 2019, following the close of its fall 2018 exhibition program. “We are thrilled to be reuniting the ICP Museum and the ICP School under one roof. This is something towards which we’ve been working for nearly twenty years,” says ICP Board President Jeffrey Rosen and ICP Board Chair Caryl Englander. “It’s gratifying to bring this exciting goal to fruition.” “ICP is that rare institution in today’s cultural landscape—we exhibit, we collect, and we educate. Thanks to the vision and support of our board, the synergy between these different elements of our mission and our identity will be strengthened by this move,” says ICP Executive Director Mark Lubell.
