Smith Jr. Family Nutrition Center By Michael James Senior Editor The Sunshine Cathedral and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Lauderdale were the locations for the second annual Interfaith Empty Bowl event, which took place on Thursday, April 3. Two dozen other community-based and spiritual organizations also participated in the fundraiser that helps to feed the hungry through the Cooperative Feeding Program (CFP). Marti Foreman has been leading the charge against hunger for the past seven years, serving as CFP’s executive director. “When the organization was first started by a group of Lutheran churches in 1985, we handed out sandwiches to the homeless.” The organization has grown over the years ad now includes case management, help in finding employment, housing, eyeglasses and many other services.
