New 2012 Internal Medicine Residents Sushma Basa, MD, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Basa graduated from Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, India. She is originally from Andhra Pradesh, India. Sushma completed her internship at MGM Hospital in Warangal, India. Her husband is a hospitalist at Berkshire Medical Center and she has a 2 1/2 year old daughter. She speaks Hindi and Telugu. Sushma enjoys traveling, cooking, listening to music and watching movies. Tinzar Basein, MD, MRCP, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Basein graduated from the Institute of Medicine I in Myanmar . She worked as a Medical officer in Myanmar for a few years and then moved to Singapore in 2008 to work as medical officer in Singapore National Cancer Centre. She received her MRCP [UK] in 2010. Tinzar speaks Myanmar [Burmese]. She enjoys traveling, watching movies and reading. Anar Dossumbekova, MD, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Dossumbekova graduated from Kazakh National Medical University in Kazakhstan. She completed one year of IM internship prior to moving to Munich, Germany and pursuing a PhD in molecular gastroenterology. After immigrating to US she completed two post-doctoral research fellowships in cardiology and rheumatology. She has published several peer reviewed articles. Anar is married and has a 4 year-old son. She speaks Russian, German, and Kazakh. She enjoys yoga, philosophy, skating, tennis, reading and spending time with her family. Teodora Dumitrescu, MD, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Dumitrescu graduated from the Universitatea de Medicina Si Farmacie Carol Davila in Romania. After immigrating to California she spent time as a research assistant at Stanford University and also working for different hospitals in California. She speaks Romanian, and French. Teodora enjoys hiking, reading, music and spending time with friends. Steven Fosmire, DO, Preliminary 2012-2013 Steven grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY. Steven graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Biddeford, ME in May 2011 with a degree in Osteopathic Medicine and a Masters of Science in Medical Education & Leadership. Last year Steven was a prelim-surgical intern at Berkshire Medical Center. He enjoys mountain biking, weightlifting, snowshoeing, playing video games, reading, traveling, photography and spending time with family. Alexander Gevorgyan, MD, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Gevorgyan graduated from Yerevan State Medical University Mkhitar Heratsi in Armenia. Alexander completed his residency in urology at Yerevan State Medical University and then a fellowship and a Ph.D. program in Minsk, Belarus. He was a practicing urologist at the Belarusian Medical Academy. In 2001 his family immigrated to California where he has worked as an ultrasound technician. After his preliminary year at Berkshire Medical Center he will continue his residency at USC in neurology. He has published several peer reviewed articles. Alexander speaks Russian and Armenian. Omar Hussein, MD, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Hussein graduated from Ain Shams University in Egypt. Omar completed a residency in anesthesia at Heliopolis Hospital in Cairo, Egypt. He has been working at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as a research trainee. He speaks Arabic. Omar enjoys soccer, basketball, running, playing table tennis, listening to music and watching movies. New 2012 Internal Medicine Residents Nina Kohli, DO, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Kohli graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. She is originally from Buffalo, New York. Nina enjoys hiking, cycling, reading, movies and spending time with family and friends. Rizwan Kundi, MD, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Kundi graduated from Khyber Medical College in Peshawar, Pakistan. After moving to the US he worked as Research assistant and patient care tech at George Washington University Hospital in the District of Columbia. Rizwan has published several articles in peer reviewed journals. He speaks Urdu, Pashto, and Punjabi. Rizwan enjoys sports, outdoor activities and spending time with friends and family. Anil Madadi, MD, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Madadi graduated from MNR Medical College in Sangareddy, India. He is originally from Andhra Pradesh, India. Dr. Madadi completed his internship from Gandhi Medical College & Hospital, Secunderbad, India. He then worked as Medical officer and primary care physician in several hospitals in India. He also voluntarily worked as an Extern and Observer in different hospitals in United States of America. He speaks Hindi and Telugu. Anil likes playing cricket, reading books, water rafting, visiting new places and spending time with family and friends. Nicholas Madaffer, DO, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Madaffer graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. He is a mid-westerner with an affinity for mountains, sunshine, trees, and the ocean. He is originally from Illinois and Ohio, and attended the University of Montana where he obtained a B.S. in Chemistry. After Internship he will be attending the University of Wisconsin - Madison for residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Nick enjoys service oriented activities, meditating, competitive triathlons, telemark skiing, indie-rock music & fly fishing. Katherine Mahon, DO, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Mahon graduated from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. Prior to attending medical school, Katherine worked at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in the hematology/oncology and inpatient surgery department. She enjoys hiking, cooking, music and visiting with people. Lakshmi Mallela, MD, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Mallela graduated from Guntur Medical College in India. Prior to coming to Detroit, Michigan she worked as a Primary Care Physician in India. In Detroit Lakshmi has been working at Wayne State University as a Co- Investigator on a heart failure research project. She speaks Hindi and Telugu. Lakshmi enjoys playing badminton, cooking, gardening and traveling. Jagmeet Mangat, MD, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Mangat is a graduate of the Government Medical College Patiala in Punjab, India. She spent some time as an observer at Albany Medical Center and Berkshire Medical Center. Jagmeet is married and she has a baby daughter. Jagmeet speaks Hindi and Punjabi. She enjoys traveling, swimming, cooking and trying different foods. Kavita Powaria, MD, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Powaria graduated from Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi, India. Kavita served in the Indian Army as a Medical officer for 5 years, retiring as a Major in 2006. She completed a residency in Nuclear Medicine in India. In 2010 she moved to the US. Kavita enjoys painting, traveling and experiencing new cultures. New 2012 Internal Medicine Residents Ihtesham-ur Rahman, MD, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Rahman graduated from the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois. He is originally from Ontario, Canada. Ihtesham will complete a neurology residency at George Washington University. He enjoys playing sports, do-it-yourself projects, visiting new places and spending time with family and friends. Jessica (Jess) Ridgley, DO, Fellowship 2012-2013 AOA NeuroMuscluloSkeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Plus-One Resident Jessica graduated from the Internal Medicine Residency at Berkshire Medical Center in June 2012. She will continue her training in a new fellowship program at Berkshire Medical, the American Osteopathic Association NeuroMusculoSkeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine PlusOne Residency. She is a graduate of Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Biosciences. Jessica is interested in alternative therapies, yoga, massage, photography, hiking, reading, scuba diving, downhill skiing and ballroom dancing. Syed Shah, MD, Preliminary 2012-2013 Dr. Shah graduated from Khyber Medical College in Pakistan. He is originally from a small village in Mardan, the North West part of Pakistan. Dr. Shah has completed three years of residency in Internal Medicine at Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, Pakistan. After relocating to United States, he worked as a volunteer in a private clinic in New York. Since Oct 2011, he has been working as a Research Assistant at The Feinstein Institute For Medical Research North Shore LIJ, New York. Shah speaks Pashto, Urdu, Hindi, Hindko and Punjabi. He enjoys watching movies and soccer, listening to music and playing cricket. Neyvis Taboada, MD, Categorical 2012-2015 Dr. Neyvis Taboada received her medical degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana Cuba in 1998. Last year Neyvis was a preliminary resident at Berkshire Medical Center. She speaks English and Spanish. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also likes biking, swimming, dancing and she is a fan of soccer.
