Marie created a family of distinctive pet foods, and named the Company after her own two pets adopted from animal rescue shelters. Adam Yafei

The Joseph P. Delaney Alumni Award was established to recognize VE alumni who not only demonstrate success in their careers, but embody the combination of leadership, professionalism, and dedication exemplified by business leader and VE champion, Joe Delaney.

Adam Yafei is an Audit Senior at Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he works primarily in the Investment Management sector within the Financial Services Industry. Prior to joining Deloitte in 2014, Adam was employed by the Brooklyn Veterans Hospital and interned with Deloitte as well as the Presented by: Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the New York City Department of Education. Joseph P. Delaney Partner, Deloitte (ret.) Adam graduated from Baruch College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a minor in Economics. He attended Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY, where he participated in VE and served as the Chief Financial Officer of his VE business. While in VE, Adam joined the Business Plan Committee and competed with fellow students across the country at the regional, citywide and national levels. Adam takes great pride in mentoring incoming VE students and passing along the same kind of support and knowledge that he received during his years in the program.

While Adam credits his participation in VE as the catalyst for pursuing his current career and his working at Deloitte, his most important life lessons were learned at home with his parents and four older siblings. Adam’s parents were born in Yemen and his father worked seven days a week to support the family. Through financial adversity, family loss and challenges, Adam learned the importance of hard work, persistence and living life to the fullest. A longstanding Yankees fan, Adam embodies the wisdom of Yankee outfielder Roger Maris, who said, “You hit home runs not by chance, but by preparation.”

Malcolm Alexander IT Professional Class of ‘08, Murry Bergtraum High School, New York, NY Malcolm Alexander is an IT professional with years of experience working in high-performance industries: education, financial services, politics and the arts. Consistently forward thinking, he has worked hard to change how IT is perceived by other departments and the general public. Malcolm has also worked for the New York City Department of Education, Coller Capital, Hillary for America and most recently, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Mahmoud Khedr Entrepreneur, Youth Advocate, Community Leader Class of ’14, Manhattan Business Academy, New York, NY Mahmoud is currently a junior at the City College of New York (CCNY) where he is studying Social Technology and Applied Psychology. Nat Lopez Actress/Singer Class of ‘05, Norman Thomas High School, New York, NY Nathaly Lopez, a.k.a Nat Lopez, is an Afro-Latina hailing from the Caribbean (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic). She grew up and resides in the Bronx.
