Nominally, this amounts to a growth of ten percent, or five percent in local currency. “We sold around 50 million power tools in 2015 – more than ever before,” said Henning von Boxberg, President of Bosch Power Tools, at the annual press conference in Leinfelden. “Our success is based on consistently focusing on the user. We know what their needs are – in particular, making work easier for do-it-yourselfers, and productivity for trades- people – and so we can offer the users suitable solutions.” One third of the turn- over generated by Bosch Power Tools in 2015 was in innovative products and services which have been on the market for less than two years. “We are also well-positioned for the future. We see opportunities for growth in emerging mar- kets and online in particular – for example with online sales and with our increas- ingly connected products.” Growth in all regions With a growth rate of more than five percent, Bosch Power Tools grew more than the market once again in 2015, which grew four percent. In Europe, the increase in turnover was five percent in local currency, primarily driven by Germany with a 17 percent growth. Turnover rose by 12 percent in North America. Despite lower growth in Brazil, Russia and China, the Bosch division grew in all continents, with a three percent increase in turnover in Latin America and five percent in the Asia- Pacific region. Africa was the continent on which Bosch achieved the greatest growth with 15 percent. Overall, Bosch Power Tools generated around 85 per- cent of its turnover for 2015 outside Germany. The importance of emerging mar- kets continues to grow. Success due to innovative products Innovative strength is an important basis for the success of Bosch Power Tools. In 2016, Bosch is introducing a brand new saw blade technology for do-it-your- selfers in the form of ‘NanoBlades’: This technology is based on a saw blade with a revolving micro-chain. It consists of chain links which are only four millimeters in size ‒ similar to a chainsaw, only smaller. The revolving chain means that the pendulum movement which is typical of jigsaws and saber saws, featuring high vibrations and saw blade running, is no longer required. “With this saw, Bosch is taking sawing to the next level,” said von Boxberg. “Our ‘NanoBlades’ allow any user to saw particularly easily and precisely and produce exact right angles while doing so.” Consistently focused on users Easy-to-use products for everyone – this is standard that Bosch Power Tools aims to meet, including measuring tools. In the past two years, the division has brought an entire tool family of laser measures onto the market, featuring self- explanatory single-button operation. In doing so, they have created a new mar- ket. Bosch has sold a total of more than two million of these tools since they were introduced onto the market at the end of 2013. Bosch Power Tools demonstrates that it is consistently focused on users by introducing many new accessories for the multifunction tools. “We're now making it particularly easy for users to change accessories. They can be changed in the same way as a ski binding – the ac- cessory is secured in just one click,” said von Boxberg. Bosch is introducing the new system into both the professional and DIY range. Intelligent products make work easier for users An important factor in Bosch's market success is its expertise in using technology to provide users with additional benefits. For example, Bosch sensors are used in impact drills and rotary hammers for both do-it-yourselfers and tradespeople to reduce the risk of injury caused by kickback. A prominent example of the user- oriented use of sensors is the Indego robotic lawnmower. Its tried-and-tested ‘Logicut’ navigation system for systematic mowing in parallel lines saves time: It makes the mower 30 percent faster than conventional robotic lawnmowers. Innovative products for construction sites Speed, flexibility and professionalism – these are the requirements that today's tradespeople must meet. Bosch helps them do so with solutions such as the ‘Wireless Charging System’ for charging cordless tools inductively. “We are con- sistently extending the ‘Wireless Charging System’. In future, we will also be of- Page 2 of 4 PI9187 fering our compact yet powerful 10.8 volt class with inductive batteries,” said Henk Becker, who is responsible for development, production, quality and also for power tools and measuring technology for professionals and do-it-yourselfers at Bosch Power Tools. “This allows us to help tradespeople to increase their productivity.” Connected products with added value Connected measuring tools which make documentation significantly easier are also contributing to increased productivity, namely two laser measures and the GIS 1000 C Professional thermo detector, which Bosch introduced into its pro- fessional range for temperature measurement last year. A joint app will be intro- duced in future for these tools that can be connected with smartphones, which will digitally record, organize and process all measured values: the Measuring Master App. Its functions are aimed at optimizing workflow, simplifying processes and eliminating manual transfer errors. Another new release is the Bosch Pocket Assistant, which will make finding the right tool or accessory easier for tradespeople by means of a smartphone. It helps users achieve the required results in only three steps: the user opens the Bosch Pocket Assistant, scans the Bosch product or accessory packaging using their smartphone and immediately receives all of the available information about the product.
