James Stewart?” One of the Re- Porters Asked
Has the rider we used to call the fastest man on the planet retired from racing so quickly that we missed it? We try to track down James Stewart WHERE WORDS: DAVEY COOMBS PHOTOS: COLLIN SPECKNER THE IT WAS THE EVE OF the Anaheim Supercross opener, and the motorcycle media and a few mainstream outlets were gathered in the Diamond Club of Angel Stadium. Before them was HELL a cloth-covered table, behind which the fastest riders on the planet were all gathered. Well, all but one, and his absence did not go unnoticed. “Your thoughts on the state of IS affairs to be missing one of the sport’s stars, James Stewart?” one of the re- porters asked. “Who wants to take it?” A collective shrug followed; the riders exchanged glances. Then Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey was asked directly. He deferred to Stewart’s longtime nemesis Chad Reed, which brought chuckles from the whole room. “I feel like I’m in a lose-lose,” the two-time AMA Supercross Champion tiptoed. “I think it’s really sad. You know, putting my differences aside. He has, what, 50 wins? Second all-time, two-time champ. He’s got the credentials, and I think it’s really sad that he doesn’t have a job. I have to think he needs to look in the mirror sometimes and see. I think that’s the best way to do it. I’ll miss racing him. I don’t know if this is it for him or not, though. The [picture] was JAMES kind of getting painted, and it’s sad STEWART? that it’s kind of turning out this way.” 72 73 WHERE THE HELL IS JAMES (Insets) Even early in his life and STEWART? career, James Stewart was a stand- out racer, winning AMA National Championships from the time he was on a Yamaha PW50 onward. -
Sunday Sunday Sunday the AMA Motocross Pro Nationals Come to Town
Sunday Sunday Sunday The AMA Motocross Pro Nationals come to town. Posted by jbr1313 On 06/16/2007 Father’s Day weekend is not just for dads at Budds Creek racetrack. Tens of thousands of motocross fans gather to see the top riders from all over the world compete for the AMA Motocross Championship. This year will be a special year as it is the last year that fans can see the Greatest of All Time, or the “GOAT” as Ricky Carmichael is referred to. Carmichael has taken the overall win at Budds Creek for the last ten years and he is going for his 100th overall win outdoors. This is a major feat for a rider in a sport with a season that is only 12 races long. Even though Ricky is running a limited season, do to his retirement, he leads James “ Bubba” Stewart in points coming into this weekend. James, who many say is the fastest man on the track, hasn’t been able to show it yet this season against Carmichael. Will this be the week? But there is more. The Lites class may not be the premier class in motocross, but it is the best up and comers of the sport. Watching Ryan Villopoto, the Aussie, Ben Townley, Ryan Dungey, and Josh Grant could be like watching Ali, Frazier, Forman, and Tyson all in the ring at once this weekend. For those of you who are going out to Budds Creek tomorrow, The Bay Net got a little sneak peak of the action as the big guns rode in their qualifying heats this afternoon. -

I read with much interest the press release that informed us that the Darwin round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) will be combined with the The 2013 Arenacross opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship (ASX) in September. Championship contenders have hit re-set for the last five Having raced in the NT several times I can attest to the fact the Northern Territory rounds while round 3 of the people love their motorsport but if at any stage it is suggested that the ASX is Italian Motocross and the ‘supporting’ the ASBK I will spew chips!! In its current state road racing in Australia annual Valencia Motocross is at best struggling with two series running in different guises while the ASX series gave the GP regulars a has quickly built a solid following after the successful 2012 series and let’s face it, workout while the 2013 Hell’s the NT is better known as a dirt biking community than anything else.
