STRATEGY Our Strategic Plan 2018-2024 British Swimming is the elite aquatics governing body in the UK. We cover all the main aquatic disciplines and hold the international OUR FUTURE affiliation to both LEN and FINA. Our main focus is elite performance, international influence and staging events. Welcome to our strategic plan for The Olympics and Paralympics provide all sports with a global opportunity to 2018 – 2024. celebrate the amazing moments that inspire us all. British Swimming has the task to nurture and to support the swimmers, divers and para-swimmers responsible for those medal-winning moments. We also have a wider responsibility to work with the home nations and the whole of aquatics in the UK to ensure a healthy, growing sport. Elite success can inspire participation but only if the whole sport works together to maximise the opportunity. The purpose of this document is to provide an overarching vision for British Swimming linked to the different disciplines. Performance sport thrives best when individuals and teams have clarity of purpose. Our individual disciplines display this every day in training and competition. However, that relentless focus needs to sit within this vision and provide inspiration to the whole sport. We have a new vision within this strategy and a set of values. Vision and strategy are only effective if they drive both culture and planning. The vision and values will be incorporated into our marketing and annual planning processes. We shall also work with the home nations and stakeholders across the sport to ensure effective strategic alignment and continual collaboration. -
Report on the Second York Schools Science Quiz on Thursday 12 March, Thirteen Schools from in and Around York Came Together
Report on the Second York Schools Science Quiz On Thursday 12 March, thirteen schools from in and around York came together for the second York Schools Science Quiz. Twenty two school teams competed along with four teacher teams (put together from the teachers who brought the pupils along from the various schools) for the trophies and prizes. Each team consisted of two Lower Sixth and two Fifth Form pupils or four Fifth Form pupils for those schools without Sixth Forms. The schools represented were Manor CE School, Canon Lee School, The Joseph Rowntree School, Huntington School, Archbishop Holgate’s School, Fulford School, All Saints School, Millthorpe School, St Peter’s School, Bootham School, The Mount School, Selby High School and Scarborough College. The event took place as part of the York ISSP and also the York Schools Ogden Partnership, with a large thank you to the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Physics for some of the prizes, the Rotary Club of York Vikings for the water bottles and the Ogden Trust for the 8 GB memory sticks and Amazon Voucher prizes. The quiz was put together and presented by Sarah McKie, who is the Head of Biology at St Peter’s School, and consisted of Biology, Chemistry and Physics rounds alongside an Observation Challenge and a Hitting the Headlines round amongst others. At the end of the quiz the teams waited with bated breath for the results to be announced. It turned out that three teams were tied for second place, so a tie breaker was needed to separate them. -

18 September 2018 Parents’ Drug Awareness Evening Tuesday 9th October at Ripon Grammar School Time: 7.00pm -8.45pm Dear Parent or Guardian Ripon Grammar School is committed to providing its students with opportunities to learn the skills they need for a happy and healthy life. This includes essential drug and alcohol education, which is age appropriate and an integral part of the National Curriculum. Whilst educating our students is very important, a consistent approach from home and school is invaluable, and I would therefore like to invite parents/carers to attend a ‘Parents’ Drug Awareness Evening’ which is being organised by the North Yorkshire Education Prevention Team at Ripon Grammar School. The workshop will be delivered by representatives from North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire County Council’s Prevention Service and Youth Justice Service and the Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust Healthy Child Team. The workshop will provide: Practical, up-to-date information about alcohol and drugs including cannabis, cocaine, MDMA and New Psychoactive Substances (previously known as ‘legal highs’) Information on the legal, health and social risks of substance misuse Information on the local situation regarding drug and alcohol use Useful tips on how to talk about this sensitive subject at home Details of where to go for additional information and support A question and answer session for parents to learn more The event is free of charge and there is no need to book a place. The event will also be open to parents and guardians of students attending Outwood Academy, Ripon and primary schools in the Ripon area. -
