  • 2020 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Joe Burrow, LSU
2020 NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT JANUARY 15, 2020 2020 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Joe Burrow, LSU *Our QB grades can and will change as more information comes in from Pro Day workouts, leaked Wonderlic test results, etc. We will update ratings as new info becomes available. Is there anyone speaking out against Joe Burrow as a top QB prospect? Does anyone even doubt that he’s the #1 pick in the draft (not necessarily admitting he’s the best player, just that he will be the #1 pick)? So, what more could I add to the Burrow lovefest of 2020? If I say that I’m very much a Burrow fan for the next level, pro-Burrow as a scout – well then there’s some intrigue taken out of this report already. Just another guy singing Burrow’s praises, big deal! However, despite any desire I might have to surprise you with a controversial take on Burrow, I’m just not finding any reason for a controversial, contrarian call for him as a bust. Not at all. The only real intrigue remaining with Burrow, for scouts and fans – just how good is Joe Burrow? As I was researching background for this report, I was watching some media segments and commentary, post-National Title game. One that caught my eye/ear was Colin Cowherd trying to classify/comp Burrow. He had top CFB analyst Joel Klatt on his show, and Klatt, in full seriousness, compared Burrow to Joe Montana… which makes some sense the more you think of it. The following day, on his show, Cowherd compared Burrow to Tony Romo…a quarterback Colin holds in high regard, so it was a nice comp, even if not quite as glowing as Klatt’s Montana call.

  • Hardship, Then Hope Tell the Story of Arizona State QB Manny Wilkins
Hardship, then hope tell the story of Arizona State QB Manny Wilkins By Bruce Feldman/The Athletic/June 26, 2018 REDONDO BEACH, Calif. — The starting quarterback at Arizona State is in law school, which in itself is remarkable given the hours that college QBs devote to trying to run their teams and dissect each week’s opponent. He’s also on his fourth offensive coordinator, and that number feels noteworthy, too. Before he arrived in Tempe, he lived in Minnesota, Las Vegas, Colorado, Texas and a bunch of places in California. Stability is relative. Actually, everything is relative. Among the eight college counselors working the Elite 11 Finals this month in Southern California, two were seniors being touted as future NFL first-round picks — Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham and Missouri’s Drew Lock. Five others are the front men of teams with top 10 promise — Alabama's Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa, Penn State’s Trace McSorley, West Virginia’s Will Grier and UCF’s McKenzie Milton. The other was a guy who’s battled through a bunch of injuries and been on teams the past three seasons that are a combined two games under .500. But when Manny Wilkins Jr. tells his story of how he got here, what it all means to him and why it matters, it is clear he matters and belongs as much as any of his peers here. Let’s start with the toughest thing he’s had to overcome. Wilkins’ father died from a drug overdose when Manny was 10. Manny Wilkins Sr.

MAXWELL FOOTBALL CLUB DECEMBER 6, 2018 – PHILADELPHIA, PA Maxwell Football Club President Mark Dianno announced today that Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been selected as the winner of the 82nd Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year, and that Kentucky senior linebacker Josh Allen is the winner of the 24th Chuck Bednarik Award for the Collegiate Defensive Player of the Year. The winners of the 82nd Maxwell Award and the 24th Chuck Bednarik Award were announced tonight as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show, live from the College Football Hall of Fame – Chick-Fil-A Experience in Atlanta. Allen, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound linebacker, was dominating this season for Kentucky with an SEC-best 14 sacks, 18.5 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles to go with his team-high 84 total tackles. He broke the Kentucky single-season and career sacks record (28.5) already this season. He was named a ProFootballFocus.com All-American as well on Monday. That site, which uses advanced metrics to grade players nationally, noted that Allen was the top defensive edge rusher in the country. “Allen brought in 51 total pressures that included 14 sacks, nine QB hits and an additional 28 hurries,” the site said. “Rounding out his game, he dropped into coverage on 141 snaps and allowed just 130 yards on 19 targets without allowing a touchdown.” He was named to the All-Southeastern Conference 1st team defense and was also named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Kentucky will square off with Penn State on January 1st in the VRBO Citrus Bowl.
