Rescinding a Bid: Stockholm's Uncertain Relationship with The
Rescinding a bid: Stockholm’s uncertain relationship with the Olympic Games Erik Johan Olson Thesis submitted to the faculty of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science In Geography Robert D. Oliver Luke Juran Korine N. Kolivras February 16, 2018 Blacksburg, Virginia Keywords: sport mega-events, urban development, Olympic bidding, Agenda 2020, bid failure, urban politics, bid strategy Copyright 2018 Rescinding a bid: Stockholm’s uncertain relationship with the Olympic Games Erik Olson ABSTRACT The City of Stockholm has undergone a curious process of considering whether to launch a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. That Stockholm has contemplated launching a bid is not surprising from a regional perspective—the Olympic Games have not been held in a Scandinavian country since Lillehammer, Norway played host in 1994 and Sweden has never hosted the Winter Olympics. A potential bid from Stockholm would also be consistent with Sweden’s self-identification and embracement of being a ‘sportive nation’. Failed applications by the Swedish cities of Gothenburg, Falun, and Östersund to host the Winter Olympic Games confirm the long-standing interest of the Swedish Olympic Committee to secure the Games, although it should be noted that the Swedish Olympic Committee did not submit a bid for the 2006, 2010, 2014 or 2018 Winter Olympic Games competitions. Although recent reports indicate that Stockholm will not vie for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the notion that the city was even considering the option remains surprising. Stockholm had withdrawn its bid from the 2022 bidding competition citing a variety of concerns including a lack of government and public support, financial uncertainty, as well as the post-event viability of purpose-built infrastructure. -

Wanda Diamond League Olympic Stadium - Stockholm (SWE) 4th July 2021 Flash Quotes TIMING, RESULTS SERVICE & DISTANCE MEASUREMENT BY Tajay GAYLE (JAM) Long Jump Men - 1st Yeah I'm very pleased and this was a reminder for the future that I can get into those regions, where I was and maybe even better. Q: What are your hopes for the remainder of the season, you must be very confident going into the remainder of the year? A: I was always confident to be honest with you. I'm settled in the Europe circuit and have been travelling for 3 or 4 years now. I'm surprised I jumped that far because my feet have not really been responding and I was tired after the golden meet in Brussels. But I'm very very pleased and very happy with the result. 04.07.2021 16:23 Thobias MONTLER (SWE) Long Jump Men - 3 The jumping was great today, a PB is always good but I think there is more to go! Maybe there will be one more competition in Monaco but if not that one, the Olympics will be next. 04.07.2021 16:30 Valerie ADAMS (NZL) Shot Put Women This was my first diamond league since 2018, and since 2018 I've had 2 kids so I'm very happy. 04.07.2021 16:33 Internet Service: stockholm.diamondleague.com Page 1of9 printed at 04.07.2021 19:45 Wanda Diamond League Olympic Stadium - Stockholm (SWE) 4th July 2021 Flash Quotes Femke BOL (NED) 400m Hurdles Women I'm amazed, I'm so happy! It is necessary to protect the current and future health conditions of young gymnasts, especially in the growth process. There is a lack of knowledge about training education on rhythmic gymnastics. To suggest innovative changes, the current study aimed to analyze the scores (D, E, and total scores) of the first 24 gymnasts competing in 34th and 36th Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships (ECh). Research data were collected from 24 rhythmic gymnasts’ scores, from the 34th ECh and 36th ECh. Difficulty (D), Execution (E), and total scores for hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon were analyzed. Conformity of data to normal distribution was assessed with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Variables with normal distribution were compared by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA)/independent samples t-test and for variables not fitting normal distribution, Mann Whitney U/Kruskal Wallis H test was used. -

Federal Dr. Urbana, IL 61801 www.sagamorepublishing.com Dedication “To produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme. No great and enduring volume can ever be written on the flea, though many there be that have tried it.” Herman Melville, my ancestor and author of the classic novel Moby Dick, has passed this advice forward to myself and the world in this quote. The dynamics of the sports environment have proven to be a very worthy topic and have provided a rich amount of material that investigates the actions, thoughts, and behaviors of people as they navigate their way through a social environment that we have come to know as sport. By avoiding the study of fleas, I have instead had to navigate the deep blue waters of research into finding the causes, roots, and solutions to a social problem that has become figuratively as large as the mythical Moby Dick that my great-great uncle was in search of. -
International Guidelines for Sports in Sweden
International guidelines for sports in Sweden International guidelines The Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) has been mandated to work with matters of common concern for the sports movement, both nationally and internationally (in accordance with Chapter 2 of RF’s Statutes). The task of the Swedish Sports Confederation in its international work is to represent the Swedish sports movement at an international level to create favourable conditions for sport in Sweden, and also to stimulate and in various ways support special sports federations (SF) in their international activities. This also means assisting through making its competence available with the aim of developing the sport internationally. The Swedish sports movement will exercise powerful international influence through coordination. These Guidelines are based on a belief in the sports movement as an international meeting place and bridge-builder between people. This is founded on the independence and impartiality of the sports movement. The sports movement has no party political or religious affiliations and can, in many cases, aid increased openness throughout the world. We have also observed at the same time that political leaders may sometimes exploit major sports competitions with ulterior motives. The position of the sports movement is that it should be possible for athletes to have whatever nationality, religion or political views they wish yet still participate on equal terms. It is then that sport’s potential as a meeting place is greatest. These International Guidelines set out fundamental standpoints for the international action of the Swedish sports movement. This requires each SF to apply the Guidelines in their international exchanges and participation. -
First Weekend of Racing in the BMW IBSF World Championships 2021 in Altenberg Titles Set to Be Awarded in the 2-Man and 2-Woman Bobsleigh
PRESS RELEASE – Preview 1 BMW IBSF World Championships Altenberg 2021 3 February 2021 First weekend of racing in the BMW IBSF World Championships 2021 in Altenberg Titles set to be awarded in the 2-man and 2-woman bobsleigh Altenberg (RWH): Just like back in 2020, the 2021 BMW IBSF Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships will once again be taking place in Altenberg (GER). However, the only thing that will be “just like 2020” will be the sporting action on the track – the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed all other aspects of the event. Whereas thousands of sports fans would normally be making their way up and down the paths at Altenberg sliding track to get a good view of the spectacular turns and straights or stake their place at the final grandstand, the venue will be completely empty this year. The athletes along with the coaches, support staff and officials required for the event will be the only people in attendance. Nevertheless, fans can still cheer along and follow each and every trip down Altenberg sliding track thanks to the live stream from the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), many hours of TV broadcasting or separate streams from partner broadcasters in a number of countries. The schedule for the first World Championship weekend in Altenberg features the 2-man and 2- woman bobsleigh events, each made up of four runs on two consecutive days. In the 2-woman bobsleigh, Katrin Beierl will be arriving in Altenberg as the first ever overall World Cup winner from Austria – a feat that has also put her among the favourites for the World Championship title. -
