We have by the grace of God, entered into the New Year with lot of plans and expectations. We are trying to forget the unpleasant memories of the past year and getting ready to embrace newer and happier experiences in life. Science and technology have advanced more than ever and we all uphold the concept of a global village. But there is a paradox of the present time in the history. We have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. These are the times of fast foods DQGVORZGLJHVWLRQELJPHQDQGVPDOOFKDUDFWHUVWHHSSUR¿WVDQGVKDOORZUHODWLRQVKLSV These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. In brief the irony is that we consider foolishness as wisdom and vice versa. The Psalmist says: “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God!" People like that are worthless; they are heartless and cruel and never do right. From heaven the LORD looks down to see if anyone is wise enough to search for Him. But all of them are corrupt; no one does right” (Psalm 14:1-3) St Paul says: “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them” (Colossians 3:5-8) “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”.(Colossians 3:14-16) Remember;as the Lord looks down from heaven let us look up to the Lord. Will He be able to see our eyes looking up to Him? Let us think of things of above and reduce the grade of the paradox of life.Let us seek and own a small but genuine improvement in our character, attitudes and ethics. Small things by a single person can make big moves in the community. Message WHAT IS THE LORD’S PLAN FOR US? 5HÁHFWLRQVRQKRZWROHDGDOLIHIXOORI3HDFH+RSH -R\ Dear Brethren in Christ, Another year has passed away in our lives. To some it might have been a year of success and prosperity, to others a year full of Happiness, Hope & Joy. To some, the past year might have added a new dimension in their lives, a turning point, but to a few, a year full of burdens and tensions, of despair, misery and bleakness. The past year was quite happening even in the history of our cathedral in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The purchase of the adjacent land was one among them. May our good Lord bless us all, to use the land in the most appropriate way, for His greater glory! The most cherished moment among them was certainly the visit of His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, our loving Bava Thirumeni during the Cathedral Perunnal. The Royal audience of Bava Thirumeniwith HRH the Prime Minister & HRH the Crown Prince, was an occasion which was bestowed after almost ten years. Many parents encourage their children to make New Year resolutions. All of us anticipate that our children be perfect in the areas that we did not fare well. We never bother to enquire of God’s will when we plan for the smallest things in our lives, like driving a car or making a new dish, or running on a treadmill. May be if we did, then we would never meet an accident, or the dish may have tasted awesome or we may have burnt few extra calories. This New Year, when we plan to do the things we feel we ought to do, it will always be a reason for blessings to have a self analysis of the same. Have we included ‘The Will’ of our Loving Heavenly Father in our plans for tomorrow? Jeremiah 29:11 says, “……For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Parents should always train their children so that they seek the will of God in everything they do. Before starting the day, while going to school, when attending the classes, while doing their homework or preparing for their exams. A simple one line prayer would do like……”Lord!Enlighten my mind that I may seek your will in whatever I do today”. And YES, the Lord our Father will de nitely give us His blessings in all what we do, far exceeding our expectations. The Lord says in Matthew 6:31-32 “…..So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear? Let me tell you a story I have heard long ago from my teachers…….. One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to gure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At rst, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer nally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it o and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it o and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted o ! The Satan tries to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it o and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone and a reminder to call for God’s help. We can get out of the deepest wells just by NOT stopping, never giving up and calling on to the Lord for help. We should decide what we wish to be? A person who meets the challenge in life and gets out of the well step by step OR a person who lies down in the well and gets su ocated under the dirt, under Satan’s plan of destruction? This New Year, remember a few things and keep it to your heart. 1. Ask for the will of God in all that you do…..even for the smallest of things. 2. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive. 3. Free your mind from worries and cast your burdens on to Jesus. 4. Live simply and appreciate and thank the Lord for what you have. 5. Give more and expect less from people but more from God.
