Specifically, the Four Rock, Free Guard Zone Rule applies. Rules Pertaining Specifically to This Bonspiel 1. If a competing rink is not ready to commence play at the time named for the beginning of the match, one end must be counted as played for every ten minutes delay, and the opposing rink, if ready to play, shall score one point for each ten minute period they have been kept waiting. The team that has been kept waiting will have last rock on the first end played. At the end of one half hour the game will be forfeited. 2. All games including the finals will be eight ends. Tied games will be decided by playing “Skip Rocks”, except for elimination games (elimination games are all games played on Saturday and Sunday, all prior games are NOT elimination) which will be decided by extra end(s). The “Skip Rocks” end shall be played in the following manner: the team who tied the game will play first. One rock with normal sweeping will be allowed, but there is to be no sweeping by the opposition behind the Tee Line. The skip’s rock finishing in the house and closest to the button will be declared the winner. If neither rock finishes in the house the skips will repeat the end until a winner is decided. 3. Teams to consist of any combination of male and female “Oil Patch” personnel and may if desired consist of one (1) non “Oil Patch” member (male or female) who must play lead or second, if desired this individual may call the game, that is skip, and play lead or second in the delivery rotation. Any team found to have a designated “Oil Patch” member that is not connected to the oil industry under the website listed “Entry Eligibility Requirements” Bonspiel Rules specified on the “Entry Registration Form” will be disqualified at any stage in the Bonspiel with forfeiture of the entry fee. The Bonspiel Committee reserves the right to rule on all eligibility matters. 4. A full rink of four eligible players must be registered. If a member through sickness or other unforeseen circumstances is unable to begin a game, then three members of the team may play. No rink shall play with less than three eligible players. In the case of a three player team, the first two players will deliver three stones each. 5. Substitute Player(s) who have not played for another team in the Bonspiel may join a rink without registering the change with the Drawmaster.

  • For Immediate Release June 16, 2014 Bernard Announces Retirement
For Immediate Release June 16, 2014 Bernard announces retirement from competitive curling. Olympic silver-medalist Cheryl Bernard will retire from competitive curling, it was announced today. Bernard won a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver curling with third Susan O’Connor, second Carolyn McRorie (Darbyshire), lead Cori Morris (Bartel), alternate Kristie Moore and coach Dennis Balderston. She will now devote her energies to her family, her charity endeavors and her speaking. “To retire from the game I absolutely love is one of the toughest decisions of my life” said Bernard. “But it’s time to be satisfied with what I have accomplished in the sport and walk away with some amazing memories and incredible relationships. I don’t think you ever really leave the game, I am sure I will stay involved in some capacity going forward." “It’s now time to give back to my family and continue my work with my two favorite charities, the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada and World Vision Canada. As well, I will continue to do keynotes across the country speaking about the parallels that exist between sport and business. I am excited about all the possibilities out there. ” In addition to her Olympic appearance, she appeared in four Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian women’s championships skipping Team Alberta (1992, 1996, 2007, 2009), including a runner-up finish in 1996 at Thunder Bay, Ont. “Standing on the podium in Vancouver and winning a medal for Canada with three other outstanding women was the most incredible feeling — a dream come true for all of us,” she said.
