The list of officers present in the meeting is attached at Annexure-A. ACS, I&WRD, Haryana, Chandigarh briefed about the agenda to all the participants present in the meeting. In this context, it is informed that a CM announcement was made on 20.04.2016 for Construction of 6 Nos. of small dams namely Nagli Dam, Darpur Dam, Chikkan Dam, Kansli Dam, Khillanwala Dam & Ambawali Dam on tributaries of river Pathrala in district Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. Tlrtr prel'minary feasibility studies for 6 No. dams i.e. Nagli Ki khol, Palasi ki Khol, Chikkan ki Khol, K,rnsli ki Khol, Ambawaliki Khol, Khillanwala Khol was carried out by WAPCOS Ltd. Chandigarh and the same was approved by Government. The preparation of Detailed Project Report (DpR) has been as signed to the IIT Roorkee vide memo No. 2/65/201 6-IIw dated 04. I I .201 g. Further, Worthy Additional Chief Secretary to Govemment of Haryana, Irrigation and W ater Resources Department, Chandigarh informed that as per the feasibility study, it was found that these 6 dams required about 550 Acres of forest land falling in the Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park, Yamuna Nagar and accordingly the permission to transfer 550 Acres of land was accorded by Gor4. vide Memo No.312/2018-tIW dated 09.03.2018. The forest clearance and wildlife clearance was submitted to Forest & Wildlife Department. These detailed proposals were sent both online and in hardcopy medium. Chief Engineer/YWS(N) intimated that the comments submitted by the concemed wildlife officials and the report submitted by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Chief Wildlife Warden, Haryana Panchkula vide memo No. 1256 dated 01.08 .20lg,states that the dam construction on th* proposed sites will adversely affect the survival of wildlife especially migrants, which use these unique habitats for their life history requirements. It has been discussed the in meeting that the storage of water in the dams may actually be beneficial for wildlife in the area as round the year water will be available in these dams. - l'l- tp Moreover, the area required for construction of dams is approximately 550 acres, whereas tlre catchment area which is the habitat for wildlife is approxim ately 8829 acres in addition to the total area of Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park, which is approxim ately 24500acres. The Principal Chief Conservator Wildlife accordingly be asked to re-examine & r';commend the case, so that CM Announcement, which is already pending since 2016 may be implemented. College for Girls, Chandigarh 2Principal Ornithologist, Department of Zoology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana Abstract - Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus) is widely distributed bird but its status is unknown in urban landscape. The aim of the study was to estimate the distribution and abundance and nesting preferences of Indian Peafowl in Chandigarh and adjoining areas from January 2017 to December 2017. Two locations in the city viz: Peacock Garden, Sector- 39 (location I), near bus stand Sector- 43 (location II) two locations from adjoining areas i.e. village Palsora (location III) and village Maloya (location IV) were selected. Point transect method was used during study. The total inhabitants of Indian Peafowl was recorded to be 30-35 at location I, 15-20 at location II, 10-15 at location III and IV with flock size ranged between 7-10 individuals. The sex ratio was highly skewed towards females at all selected locations. The thick, thorny and scrub vegetation cover was found to be the most preferred habitat. Indian Peafowl devoted maximum time in feeding and standing followed by roosting, calling and display. Roosting was observed on Azadiracta indica (Neem), Ficus religiosa (Peepal), Acacia nilotica (Kikar), Melia azedarach (Dhek). Breeding activities of Indian Peafowl was commenced in the month of April till first week of October. At location I, II, III and IV nests observed were 7, 5, 3, and 2 respectively.
