© 2020 AUSTRALIAN CHILDREN’S TELEVISION FOUNDATION ABOUT THE SERIES CONTENTS Are You Tougher than Your Ancestors? takes today’s kids on a wild ride back through time. Drawing from our rich 2. Indigenous and multicultural heritage, ABOUT THE SERIES the series celebrates the diversity of Australia’s shared history. We turn 4. stereotypes on their heads and allow our USING THIS RESOURCE kids to experience the past in ways they never imagined. As a living history series, 5. Are You Tougher than Your Ancestors? EPISODE SYNOPSES is brainy, but fun. Full of gross, ‘OMG!’ moments, each episode takes our modern 8. children into a foreign world. To survive LEARNING TASKS the experience they must take risks, push themselves, trust their abilities and make Foundation: ‘Dancing on Wheels!’ decisions on their own, without Mum or Year 1: ‘Kernewek Lowender!’ Dad (or Google!) anywhere in sight. Year 2: ‘Lennie the Legend’ Year 3: ‘Dai Gum San! Bendigo Easter Festival’ Each episode is built around a fresh Year 4: ‘The Big Match!’ and exciting story that you’re unlikely Year 5: ‘Pioneer Living German Style!’ to find out in the history books. Strong Year 6: ‘Olympia!’ historical stories from diverse families and communities provide the narrative 36. backbone of each episode in the series. We employ true stories of amazing AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM ancestors – stereotype busting, heroic LINKS and unusual tales of courage, endurance and ingenuity displayed by kids from the 39. past that we ask our modern children to BEHIND THE SCENES emulate. The experiences our modern children go through in each episode are 41. -
Annual Report: 2015-2016
ANNUAL REPORT of the PRESIDENT 2015-2016 INTRODUCTION The Chung Wah Society was established in 1946, a social and sporting club for Darwin's burgeoning Chinese population. Before the Society and prior to World War II, the two main groups serving the Chinese community were the Wah On Society (predecessors to the Chung Wah Society) and the Kuomintang (supporting the Nationalist Party in China). Today, the Chung Wah Society is a community-based, non-political organisation which has approx. 380 members and their families, the majority of whom reside in the Darwin area. The Society strives to achieve its aims and objectives through active participation within the wider community. Keen to encourage a broad based membership, the Society arranges and sponsors a number of events and activities including sporting, seniors, youth, cultural, fund-raising, historical and general social activities. Many of the committee and board members are descendants of the founding members back in 1946. We have had many participants enjoying holidays and out and about participating in community events, with some great stories to share later on in the newsletter. In the world of NDIS, as many of our participants move onto their second and for some third NDIS plans, we are seeing some overall improvement in the outcomes through planning. Unfortunately we are still kept busy following up for those where the planning process does not accurately capture needs and I plan to meet with the NDIS Australia on how that might work for you and your family on a more regular basis to ensure that we can raise these member with a disability. -

Our swimmers have been competing in both the Victorian State Long Course Sprint championship as well as at Victorian Country championships in January 2021. At the State Long Course Sprint Championships held on at MSAC on16-17th January 2021 we had terrific results with Emily Kearns striking gold in the 50m girls 14/15 backstroke and Jett Bird flying home to grab silver in the 50m Boys14 /15 backstroke. Congratulations to Emily and Jett. Last weekend's Victorian Country Swimming Championships were held at Warragal and the club scored 12 medals and finished tenth overall which is a fantastic effort when you consider how young the Club is and all kudos must go to the efforts of Coach Jarrod and all Swimming stars.
