Me2We Somalia Famine Relief Fundraising by Matthew Martin, Grade 5 My experience going around classrooms to discuss famine and drought was a fun opportunity to help kids learn about what is going on in Somalia. This was also good practice for my speech arts! Samantha and I, as well as Matthew D, went to different classrooms and all of the students were very respectful. Every class was full of listening skills and had lots of questions to ask us. I think the classes enjoyed touching the dry crusty dirt and comparing it with the rich, moist soil. They probably enjoyed the colours in the presentation. My favourite part was when all the kids asked if we were playing baseball when we demonstrated the sphere of the earth with a baseball! I would love to visit classes to share information again!!! We collected $1525.56 - BRAVO! Terry Fox Run by Mara Wirth, Grade 5 Terry Fox ran for one reason: Terry Fox wanted to raise money for cancer research. Terry wanted a dollar from every Canadian in Canada. Research money = Hope; More money = More Hope; 33 million Canadians = 33 million dollars or more! Terry started in St.John, Newfoundland and he ended his run in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Today we live on his Dream by running the Terry Fox Run every September. Maurice Cody hoped to collect a toonie from every student, together, we raised:$1660.00!! Thank you Maurice Cody! We Day - September 27th by Katherine Kircher, Grade 6 and Bronwyn Black, Grade 5 We Day is an event organized by Craig and Mark Keilburger (they are the two brothers that started the FREE THE CHILDREN FOUNDATION ). We Day is a full day at the ACC filled with motivational speakers such as Rick Hansen, Spencer West and Patch Adams. It also has incredable performers like Joe Jonas, Nelly Furtado and Shawn Desmen. We Day is all about making kids believe that they can help and, that, as we know, we can make a difference in our world! .
