An optional second year is offered. The fellowship is designed to provide an in-depth experience in the care and management of all aspects of pediatric ophthalmology including, but not limited to, strabismus, anterior segment disease, retinopathy of prematurity, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and ocular oncology. The program is also designed to provide a broad research experience in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. The fellowship is a full-time commitment. Upon completion of the program, fellows will be adequately prepared for an academic career in pediatric ophthalmology. A stipend is provided. The fellow divides his/her time between the Los Angeles County + USC Medical Campus and Children's Hospital Los Angeles, with the majority of time spent at Children's Hospital. Fellowship applicants must have completed an accredited residency in ophthalmology, and they must be Board eligible in ophthalmology. A California medical license is required in order to begin the fellowship, and it is possible to apply for a California medical license online. Training Sequence Clinical + Optional Research Application Deadline Years of Training 1 Interview Date Positions Available Positions Available to Start in July, 2019 : 1 Program Description The Loma Linda University Eye Institute offers a fellowship opportunity for candidates interested in receiving training in the care of children with eye and vision problems as well as adults with strabismus. Through close daily interaction with faculty, the fellow will gain broad clinical training in the practice of pediatric ophthalmology, including the diagnosis and treatment of: •amblyopia, •strabismus, •pediatric glaucoma, •pediatric cataract surgery, •nasolacrimal duct procedures, •congenital ptosis, •retinopathy of prematurity, •and pediatric ocular trauma. In addition, fellows are involved in all aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of adults with strabismus. The pediatric ophthalmology fellow serves as the chief liaison for the pediatric ophthalmology consult service at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and participates in ocular trauma call for the Loma Linda University Medical Center as well as the children’s hospital. Fellows attend and participate in educational conferences such as departmental grand rounds, journal clubs and invited lectures as well as a monthly pediatric ophthalmology service conference. Numerous opportunities for teaching through lectures and direct interactions with ophthalmology residents, as well as for the pursuit of clinical research are available to our fellows. The LLU Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship is a one-year program approved by the AUPO Fellowship Compliance Committee. A full PGY-5 stipend, including benefits, is provided. She completed a fellowship in Ocular Genetics with Irene Maumanee and has special expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of children with genetic conditions with ophthalmic manifestations. Scott Lambert MD is Co-chief of Division of Ophthalmology at Lucile Packard Childrens Hospital and Professor of Ophthalmology. As principal investigator of the Infant Aphakia Treatment Trial, he has extensive experience in the design and implantation of collaborative clinical trials and has extensive experience with PEDIG. Euna Koo MD Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology is the Fellowship Director. She received her fellowship at Boston
