Presenters Sue Hurry, George O Dowd and Gemma Carrol (Resolvit) Title of workshop Wellbeing - Super Hero Academy Workshop Overview of PSE for the 21st Century workshop Our school has been using the Super Hero Academy Resources for the last year as part of our PSE curriculum in KS 2 and we would like to invite you to attend a workshop to explore this interactive resource at our school. The interactive resources are aimed at young people aged between 7+, focusing on personal safety and self-awareness. The life skills topics covered include - Friendships, Cyber Bullying, Bullying, and First Impressions. During the workshop you will have an opportunity to participate in some of the Super Hero Academy activities and view the online resources. The safe online learning platform, filled with ready-made PSHE booklets and class videos, quizzes and individuals logins to for pupils allow you to track individuals progress. All those who attend will have FREE access to the online resource until the end of September 2019.

Impact on  All pupils KS 2 pupils who participated in the “Super Hero Academy provision, Programme” developed their self-confidence and levels of self- teaching and esteem were raised. learning and/or  There was a noticeable improvement in communication skills leadership  All pupils enjoyed participating in the programme and felt that they had grown in confidence  The resources can be delivered to classes or used in focused groups.  Lower number of poor behaviour incidents being recorded.  The school will continue to use this resource in the future and new additional resources are being added to the online portal to meet the new curriculum changes.  The school receives update training every year for all staff involved in delivering the resource. (The school based training can be delivered in Welsh and there are plans to translate the resource into Welsh). Venue University of South Wales Presenter Dr Susan Haywood Title of workshop Escape Room Games Overview of  The workshop will allow participants to take part in an workshop escape room game which comprises a series of challenges in the form of puzzles that they need to solve, working in small groups. The games require them to collaborate in order to solve the puzzles.  Participants will work in groups of four or five.  The experience of the game will be followed by a ‘debriefing’ and discussion of the pedagogy involved. The game itself takes 45 minutes to an hour, plus time for discussion.

Impact on  A workshop on using escape room games in education provision, has been offered as a session for students on our MA teaching and programme both as an induction activity and in order to learning and/or model this approach as a pedagogical strategy.
