  • The Guitar Institute Teacher and Soundtrack Doer Lindsey Boullt Has Come True a Life's Dream with This Album
The Flock, Mahavishnu Orchestra), Derek Sherinian (keyb., Ex-Dream Theater, Chroma Key, Planet X), Stu Hamm (bss, u. a. Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Frank Gambale) und Atma Anur (drms, u. a.

  • Interview by Stuart Winkleman, Rocketsounds
Elmer Ferrer Cuba's Hot Guitar Hand Part 1 Part 2 Guitarist and composer Elmer Ferrer is one of the most active studio musicians in Cuba. When he first dedicated himself to music, he was one of just a handful of Cuban electric guitar players. Since then, he has become a professor at the school where he studied both classical and electric guitar, toured internationally, and appeared on several soundtracks and over 60 CDs. His flexible and eclectic style includes acoustic folk, blues, hard rock, and electric jazz... a diverse mix of different things, or as they say in Cuba, "tremendo arroz con mango." He was gracious enough to grant Rocket Sounds Photo by Iván Soca this exclusive interview, following the release of his new CD, Fango Dance. RS: Elmer, congratulations on the release of your second CD, Fango Dance. It is awesome! EF: Thanks a lot! I´m glad you like it. RS: What is your background and how did you come to be a guitar player? EF: I was born in Sancti Spíritus, one of the central provinces of Cuba, which always had a very rich musical environment. My mother is a musician too, and when I was a kid, I was surrounded by music all the time. I have a sister and a brother, and the three of us are all professional musicians. I used to sing at school and theaters when I was a kid and always liked the sound of the guitars. That was the instrument that captured my attention, and that was the reason I started to study classical guitar at 12.

ISP Technologies, LLC. 5479 Perry Drive, Suite B Waterford, MI 48329 Media Contact: Michelle Waller 248-673-7790 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ALLAN HOLDSWORTH FOR THE THETA PRO DSP Visionary Jazz/Progressive Rock guitarist, Allan Holdsworth, has endorsed the ISP Technologies Theta Pro DSP™ floor controlled guitar system. As an artist known for sculpting the guitar's voice into unfathomable textures and colors, Allan realized, after demoing the Theta Pro at a recent gig, just how easily he could shape his own tone. The ISP Technologies ThetaPro DSP™ is a Floor controlled guitar system with a fully programmable digital Theta preamp, Vintage preamp, plus Studio quality effects processing. While the buzz for many years has been “Modeling”, ISP takes a departure from the modeling processors and hands the guitar player the audio clay. Professional players like Holdsworth, want their own sound and the ThetaPro DSP delivers, allowing the artist to shape their own tone with limitless possibilities. With other great features, like the a 32 bit floating point processor, more usable gain than other processors on the market with no aliasing, and the ability to plug directly into the FOH system and/or record directly, more artists are discovering and using the Theta Pro both live and in the studio. Now with Ping Pong Delay, the Leslie Rotary Speaker Simulator, True Stereo, a Tuner (accurate to a 1/2 cent), the Theta Pro DSP is the ultimate guitar system. In Allan Holdsworth's continued quest for the perfect sound, he said, "The Theta Pro sounds simply amazing. Exceptional tone shaping abilities." To have Holdsworth, an inductee into Guitar Players Magazine's Hall of Fame, who has also been named as influential in their music by such renowned artists as Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson, Michael Romeo and Greg Howe, choose the Theta Pro DSP was amazing.

Circa 1999 - Matt's Music (an interview by Matt Williams) - UK MATT'S MUSIC: AN INTERVIEW WITH DAVE KILMINSTER By Matt Williams | Circa 1999 (Interview reproduced by permission of Matt Williams) Dave Kilminster started playing guitar on the 29th of April, 1976. He played left-handed for several years before switching to right-handed after breaking his wrist in a go-carting accident. In 1991 he won the European 'Guitarist of the Year' competition run by Guitarist magazine with the instrumental, 'Sundance'. As well as teaching, Kilminster currently transcribes for UK magazines Guitarist and Guitar Techniques. He has worked with such talented British players as Mario Parga (notably on an unreleased classical album in the style of Passion, Grace & Fire), Fraser Thorneycroft-Smith (on the 1996 acoustic CD, Playing with Fire) and Guthrie Govan. More recently Kilminster was asked to join mega-vocalist John Wetton's (ex-Asia) band which resulted in world-wide tours and a higher profile for this virtuoso player. Kilminster's style is highly individual. Certain aspects bear a minor similarity to the likes of Steve Vai; but, for the most part, he has an unique trademark sound. 'Everyone is a unique individual', explains the guitarist, 'with their own set of inherent traits, characteristics and disorders. Certain things feel very natural to me, and the way I feel when I play a certain note will be different to how somebody else might feel. So how can I not sound individual? I think the problem is that most people want to sound like someone else so they set out on this quest up a dead end street.

  • Contemporary Guitar
CONTEMPORARY GUITAR Teacher: Santiago Jesús Iglesias Hurtado INTRODUCTION This contemporary guitar workshop is already a classic in the University of Alicante's Culture Office, and also a pioneer in Europe in terms of contents and methods. In other continents, this specialised subject is dealt with in music studies degrees, hence the undeniable popularity and success of this workshop. The guitar is one of the easiest instruments that one can learn to play, but at the same time it is also one of the hardest to master. Even if millions or people are able to play well-known tunes just by learning a few chords, this instrument offers endless possibilities for musical expression for passionate students willing to devote time and effort to the learning process. All great guitarists agree that this instrument constantly poses new challenges and is extremely rewarding if you are willing to work for it. Of course, you cannot learn to play from one day to the next, but in this workshop we will use the teachers' personal and professional experience to build a learning method for modern guitar that is both effective and worth your while. JUSTIFICATION As in previous years, the aim of this workshop is to teach students how to play the guitar by means of a well- structured, progressive learning system that takes into account our society's cultural needs. Students will not only learn how to play this typically Spanish instrument, but they will also get to know the technical resources used in recording studios and live performances, the history of guitar, and new technologies applied nowadays in the music and guitar industry, from a basic to a more advanced/professional level.
