In 2007, he opened Pavarotti’s Concert for the Asian Global Leadership Forum held at Pangkor Laut. Patrick’s music is inspired by the intimacy of Worship unto the Lord and to date, he has recorded three albums. In 2008, Patrick Leong was invited to perform at the “Youth for Healthy Hearts Gospel Concert” in Atlanta, USA, raising awareness for heart-related diseases and raising funds for deserving youths for scholarship funding. Sharing the platform with top renowned Gospel Grammy Award Artists from America, the concert was a huge success in both turn-out and support. Juwita Suwito’s journey in the professional music scene began in her late teens as backing vocalist for leading Malaysian artistes at gigs, mega concerts and prominent award shows. She soon developed her versatility and was often called to record song demos for East Asian publishing houses. In unexpected turns of events, some of these demos were regionally released and caught the attention of many curious listeners. One example is her moving rendition of “Breathe Again” published by Warner Music Taiwan in the original soundtrack for Mandarin TV drama series “The Outsiders”. To no surprise, Juwita’s solo debut album, “Brand New World”, was awarded “Best Local English Album” at the prestigious AIM Awards in 2005.

A series of stage activities by Dato' AC Mizal got the audience busy participating throughout the evening. Lucky winners of a contest on RHB Bank held during the concert also walked away with shopping vouchers. The concert in KL is the finale of the three concerts organised as part of RHB Bank's 100th Anniversary, celebrating a century of growth, progress and success. It is the Bank's way of showing its appreciation to customers, business partners and members of the public for their support throughout the years. Similar concerts were held previously in Johor Bahru on 7 September 2013 and Kuching, Sarawak on 28 September 2013.     Jurnal Komunikasi, Malaysian Journal of Communication Jilid 26(2): 17-32 MALAYSIAN REALITY TV: BETWEEN MYTH AND REALITY JULIANA ABDUL WAHAB UNIVERSITI SAINS MALAYSIA Abstract The privatization policy that was introduced in 1983 by the Mahathir administration opened up the flood gates for the establishment of TV stations run on a commercial basis as well as for Malaysian media practitioners to produced more local programmes. However, most of the locally produced programmes tend to be mere copies of the western genres.The popularization of these genres is also an indicative of the process of the globalization that has taken place. Since 2000, Malaysian television industry has witnessed the mush- rooming of a ‘new’ television genre called reality TV. The ‘new’ genre was popularized by the introduction of reality TV game shows, namely Survivor and Amazing Race, which received favourable response from the Malaysian audiences. Subsequently, Malaysian’s first version of reality game show, Explorace was introduced on TV3. The phenomenon spreads rapidly in the later years. Satellite TV station Astro, on its part, has redefined and introduced a ver- sion of musical type reality TV, Akademi Fantasia which become a huge craze in Malaysia. Since then, more and more so-called reality TV shows within the musical programmes have inundated almost every local television channel. The study attempts to trace the development of locally produced reality TV shows and to as- sess this phenomenon within the context of the Malaysian televi- sion industry and within the process of globalization. Equally im- portant, the study seeks to uncover the myth and reality of the new genre.

[email protected] Abstract The mechanism of da’wah through Islamic reality television programs is one of the greatest efforts initiates to spur da’wah today. The delivery method of da’wah in light and leisurely style makes the essence of Islamic message more interesting and accessible to the public. The emergence of the Islamic reality television program gave the new dimension of da’wah. Therefore, this paper aims to discuss the development of da’wah through the mass media in Malaysia. The paper also briefly discusses reality television programs from global and Malaysian perspectives. This paper also explores the development of Islamic reality television program in Malaysia and its importance as a contemporary da’wah mechanism in Malaysia. The qualitative approach was applied through library research and in-depth interviews to achieve the research objective. Ten informants were interviewed including the four participants, four murabbi or Islamic experts and two producers of Islamic reality television programs. The study revealed that the Islamic reality television programs in Malaysia has applied light and leisure methodology and practical approach that could attract viewers and bring them closer to Islam. Islamic television reality programs have contributed to religious efforts in the society and give new dimension to contemporary da’wah in Malaysia.
