(Susanne, Pat) 1. DECLARATION OF INTEREST (none) 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES That the July 2014 minutes of the Hamilton Historical Board be approved (Bob, Christine) 3. ANNOUNCEMENTS  Bob- Stoney Creek and Shipwrecked on a Great Lake connection.  John- Fieldcote film, Shipwrecked on a Great Lake. Look into distribution/use at schools? Jason Thorne: introductions, questions:  Robin- How to make Griffin House a bigger better place. Long term plans? Issues are budget (staffing).  Carolyn- Presented the complete listing of plaques she has created. Children’s museum is too small, would like to move Gage Park study into action.  Pat- Concerned with city not retaining ownership of Historical properties. Revisit how we celebrate our Heritage Days and why the dismal turn outs.  Christine- Century Manor- building is deteriorating. Infrastructure Ontario not allowing entry for safety reasons. Is significant to the current structure by complementing how far mental health care has come.  Will- Need for a City of Hamilton Museum.  Mary- Wanted to bring attention to the website. Request for TB McQuesten high level bridge statue.  John- Important to maintain Heritage as part of planning and economic development. Role of the board to increase community awareness.  Rob- Electric City plaque location at site of last remaining Decew-line hydro tower has effect of highlighting this Municipal artifact. Ties into industrial archeology. Way to highlight online etc.  Bob- The ‘wow’ factor, Bob’s personal agenda- correcting errors, how history is interpreted. Broader interpretation of plaques as to what was going on in the area surrounding the plaque. Funding for plaquing. 4. ITEMS OF MOTION 4.1.1 Communications & Education Sub-Committee MINUTES: Hamilton Historical Board Page 2 of 3 August 19, 2014 4.1.2 Editorial Team 4.1.3 Heritage Events Sub-Committee 4.1.4 Joint Plaquing Sub-Committee 5. 2012 HHB Budget & Work Plan/MHP Report – Ian Kerr-Wilson  Update on advisory group review- this is going through clerks right now. No update as of yet. May be some further updates when Ian gets back. John is concerned with time passing and getting in the way of our process. Once clerks approve and release application we can post to website and distribute.  Roofing at Dundurn- scaffolding is up, work is starting but will take months. Rob- requests for October to request an ask from Curators for capital budget projects.  Report from DTBH- report is going through.  Children’s Museum meeting- we are at the procurement stage.  Downtown Built- phase one completed, phase two starting. Now looking at the rest of the city. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 6.1. Committee Reports (5 minutes each for questions) 6.1.1. Communications & Education Sub-committee – John Nixon  Bookmarks created by Christopher. To advertise for HHB.  Motion: propose that the HHB authorize up to $500 to spend on the production of the bookmarks (John, Robin, APPROVED) 6.1.2. Editorial Team – Christine Lei  On schedule for next addition of historicity July 2015- sports theme. Looking for writers. Deadline for submission will be in November.  Robin suggested a child’s writing on the Tigers for inclusion? John would like to see it before he writes his story to be sure that they do not overlap.  Empire games- Christine will speak at event. 6.1.3. Heritage Events Sub-Committee – Pat Saunders  What are we going to do about George Hamilton Day? 6.1.4. Joint Plaquing Sub-Committee – Robin McKee  Assize Execution Site Burlington Heights panoramic plaque unveiled, Electric City in September to be planted and unveiled at a local school, September 7th Harmony Apartments to be unveiled, Bruce plaque is in the ground, Henderson unveiled.  New ideas from last meeting- Great Western Railway, Central Collegiate, St. Ann’s School. Please come forward with any other ideas and send to Robin.  Bob- Henderson Wing sign is back on the building at Juravinski . Suggest placing plaque in the gap in the trees. 6.1.4.1. Plaquing inventory review (hand out from Carolyn McCann). Go over this hand out to see if you know any of the missing information. 6.2.
