TIPOFF * Southland Conference Game >> The New Orleans women’s basketball program will look to turn the page after a week off from competition (no games scheduled/not COVID related). The Privateers fell 72-55 to Jacksonville State in their last game back on Dec. 5, 2020 at the Pete Mathews Coliseum in Jacksonville, Ala. DIONJHAE THMOAS led the team in scoring (15 points) for the second straight contest. Three student-athletes reached double-digit scoring in total. >> The New Orleans and Missouri programs have not met very often throughout each school’s history as this will be just the fourth meeting between the two schools. The Privateers took the first ever meeting between the two sides by a 91-86 margin back on Jan. 1, 1988. The squads have gone on to play just two more times in the last 32 years, both Missouri victories (53-52 win on Dec. 14, 1988 and 81-45 victory back on Dec. 2, 2017). It is the first time in three years that the two sides are linking up once again. The Privateers advanced to the Southland Play-by-Play Nate Gatter Postseason Tournament for the fourth straight year and posted the program’s highest win total since 1992-93. Included in that mark were 12 Southland victories, the most conference wins for the program in a single-season Color Brad Loos in school history. RADIO Mizzou Network >> The Privateers return just five of their 13 letterwinners from a year ago, but each returner DIONJHAE( THOMAS, Play-by-Play - JADA DUNCANTELL, MIA DECK, MARY DELGADO and TRAYA BRUCE) has handled starter minutes during their career. The team also reloaded with one of the most talented and deepest recruiting classes in program history with the addition of 11 newcomers that included three transfers (TIANA GIPSON, ERIN RANDLE and ABIGAIL STREAMING SEC NETWORK + JOHNSON) and eight freshmen (CALEIGH-ROSE WEST, ERICCA RICHARDSON, KYLA DAVIS, ZOE COOPER, Play-by-Play Nate Gatter BRIANNA ELLIS, AALIA CARLSON, ZANAA CORDIS and JACQUELINE DIANIS). CLASSIFICATION The Privateers hit 404-of-606 (66.7%), good for the 71st-most free Seniors 2 Duncantell, Thomas throws made in the country. This season Dionjhae Thomas has paced Juniors 4 Bruce, Gipson, Johnson, Randle the group with 24 free throw attempted through three games, the Sophomores 2 Deck, Delgado seventh-most attempts in the Southland Conference. Freshman 8 Carlson, Cooper, Cordis, Davis, Dianis, Ellis, Richardson, West WE’LL TAKE THAT >> The Privateers are known throughout the Southland Conference for their defense, a fact the nation took notice of as well in 2019-20. New YEARS IN THE PROGRAM Orleans recorded 10.3 steals per contest, a mark that ranked 29th in 5th Year 0 None all of NCAA DI. Its 299 overall steals slotted in at 41st in the country. 4th Year 2 Duncantell, Thomas 3rd Year 1 Bruce DECK FROM DOWNTOWN 2nd Year 3 Deck, Delgado, Johnson >> The green light is always on for sophomore guard MIA DECK after 1st Year 10 Carlson, Cooper, Cordis, Davis, Dianis, Ellis, Gipson, Randle, Richardson, West she shot 35.9 percent from the field and 38.6 from behind the arc during her freshman campaign. The three-point percentage was the fifth-best mark in the conference and tops among Southland HOME STATE freshman. She had five games in which she knocked down three Texas 4 Davis, Deck, Randle, Richardson or more treys in 2019-20, with a career-high of seven in a win over Louisiana 3 Bruce, Duncantell, Thomas UIW back on Jan. 1, 2020.
