This document is not exhaustive and does not replace the GS1 General Specifications, which remains the standard reference document. Since then, companies have been seeking to pilot and implement the standard. Currently, the use of the GS1 Digital Link URI syntax is not in the GS1 General Specifications, so may not be implemented by those who are able to use it. This work request was submitted to allow the use of GS1 Digital Link where the data carrier will be scanned by a consumer mobile device to support their requirements. This means that GS1 Digital Link URI syntax must be encoded in data carriers that can be scanned or read by mobile devices. GS1’s standards currently do not allow for GSRN to be carried by a symbology that may be used at POS. Therefore, this request is to expand the GS1 data carriers that may carry the GSRN to include GS1 DataBar Expanded and GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked. This change will open the door to further uses of the GS1 DataBar and may spread to other retailers, resulting in broader implementation. Migros supports this work request and will participate in the ID SMG to see to its completion.
