I think it's one of the best courses we play on TOUR. It's got a lot of character and definition, but more than that it's got a great mixture of holes, from long par-5s to reachable par-5s to drivable par-4s to really long par-4s, the fescue grass, the rough. It's just a wonderful way to play the game where you have such a great mixture of every club in your bag. You have birdie opportunities, you have tough pars as opposed to some courses nowadays where it's just hard, hard, hard. Hard is hard, but it's not great, it's not fun. But this golf course is a great golf course, and it's a fun golf course to play.” CHARLEY HOFFMAN: ... you obviously feel good going back to a course you've played well on in the past, and what they've done in the redesign at TPC Boston is unbelievable from the first year I played until now. It's really transformed, and it's one of my favorite golf courses on TOUR for sure. STEVE STRICKER: “I enjoy coming here to Boston… I enjoy this course. I really like what they've done here the last few years, Brad Faxon and (architect Gil Hanse) in the redesign of it all. I really like it…the condition of the course is very good. It’s a fun course … I think it’s a good test. It’s one of those if you’re playing well, you can shoot a good number.” TIGER WOODS: “I wanted to get back here, this is one of my favorite tournaments. And a golf course I like. I’ve played well here over the years… The greens are perfect, the fairways are in great shape.” PHIL MICKELSON: “I do like the course a lot. It’s one of the best risk/reward courses that we play. I’m able to be aggressive into the greens, which is the strength of my game, my iron play. So I think that’s why I like this course so much.” KEEGAN BRADLEY: “The wind was up. Greens are firm… It was a lot different than I’ve ever seen. I think this is the way everyone would like to see this course play. It seems like more of championship-style course. I think up here there's a certain type of bunkering at the golf courses, and they brought that into this golf course with the fescue grasses and stuff like that, and I think it's a beautiful look. The golf course was in great shape, so I really enjoyed that.” JASON DAY: “The front nine suits my eye, the back nine you have to pay a little more respect.” IAN POULTER (via twitter): “The food in the players lounge is fantastic at TPC Boston.     INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT: TOM WATSON Wednesday, June 22, 2011 MODERATOR: I'd like to welcome Tom Watson to the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, his first visit back to En-Joie since 1976. Tom, coming off of a big win about a month ago at the Senior PGA Championship, maybe just get us started, talk about that, and then where your game is right now. TOM WATSON: Well, thanks. My game is actually in pretty good shape right now. I played in a tournament that I started in Kansas City five years ago called the Watson Challenge, trying to determine the best player we can in the city. It's only for the Kansas City golfers, the amateurs and the pros. We had the tournament there and I ended up winning that tournament and still kept the challenge alive. Why can't anybody beat a 61-year old, broken-down pro? I actually played pretty well, drove the ball well there, that's -- I'm playing pretty well right now. On this golf course, you have to drive the ball well, and if you don't drive the ball well, you're going to get into the rough and you're going to be -- make a lot of bogeys on this kind of course. It's in excellent shape. I'm probably at somewhat of a disadvantage because I haven't played this course, I don't remember it, since 1976 and a lot of the players who have played it the last four years on our Tour, so I hope to get to know it a little bit better and I have a chance at the end of Sunday to have a chance to win.
