GOLDEN EARRING Is De Oudste Nog Bestaande Rockband in Nederland GOLDEN EARRING is de oudste nog bestaande rockband in Nederland. In 1961 begonnen vier Haagse schooljongens met de band The Tornados. De op schoolfeesten spelende band verandert zijn naam in 1963 in The Golden Earrings om deze zes jaar later in te korten tot Golden Earring. De band brak door in Nederland, mede door ontdekker Freddy Haayen, en was het boegbeeld van de Haagse beatscene. Met Radar Love in 1973 en Twilight Zone negen jaar later heeft Golden Earring als een van de weinige Nederlandse bands echt internationaal succes gehad. De band heeft wereldwijd miljoenen albums verkocht en genoot in de jaren zeventig en tachtig van de 20e eeuw internationale sterrenstatus. In de Nederlandse muziekwereld neemt Golden Earring met meer dan dertig gouden en platina albums een belangrijke positie in. De jarenlange creatieve ontwikkelingen die gezorgd hebben voor een eigen, energieke rocksound en de vele successen maken Golden Earring tot een unieke band in de Nederlandse rockgeschiedenis. Uitgifte datum 10 oktober 2011 Moontan, is internationaal het meest succesvolle album van Golden Earring. In de Verenigde Staten kreeg de band voor het album een gouden plaat. De blijvende favoriet van Moontan is de wereldwijde hit Radar Love. Andere nummers als Candy's Going Bad, just Like Vince Taylor en Vanilla Queen, groeiden uit tot Earring-klassiekers. Golden Earringleden Barry Hay en George Kooymans stonden aan de wieg van de zangcarrière van Anouk Teeuwe. Zij schreven het nummer Mood Indigo en produceerden het meervoudig platina debuutalbum Together Alone in1997, waarop Hay en Kooymans beiden zingen en meespelen.     The Duality of the Composer-Performer by Marek Pasieczny Submitted for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy School of Arts Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Supervisors: Prof. Stephen Goss ©Marek Pasieczny 2015 The duality of the composer-performer A portfolio of original compositions, with a supplementary dissertation ‘Interviews Project: Thirteen Composers on Writing for the Guitar’. Abstract The main focus of this submission is the composition portfolio which consists of four pieces, each composed several times over for different combinations of instruments. The purpose of this PhD composition portfolio is threefold. Firstly, it is to contribute to the expansion of the classical guitar repertoire. Secondly, it is to defy the limits imposed by the technical facilities of the physical instrument and bring novelty to its playability. Third and most importantly, it is to overcome the challenges of being a guitarist-composer. Due to a high degree of familiarity with the traditional guitar repertoire, and possessing intimate knowledge of the instrument, it is often difficult for me as a guitarist-composer to depart from habitual tendencies to compose truly innovative works for the instrument. I have thus created a compositional approach whereby I separated my role as a composer from my role as a guitarist in an attempt to overcome this challenge. I called it the ‘dual-role’ approach, comprising four key strategies that I devised which involves (1) borrowing ‘New Music’ practices to defy traditionalist guitar tendencies which are often conservative and insular; (2) adapting compositional materials to different instrumentations; and expanding on (3) the guitar technique as well as; (4) the guitar’s inventory of extended techniques.

En dat we van het Drentse platteland kwamen, dat was alleen maar mooi. We waren toch een soort cultband.’ Een plons in de oertijd der vaderlandse popmuziek met Harry “Cuby” Muskee. Toen R + B nog gewoon rhythm ‘n blues betekende. door Frank Antonie van Alphen ‘Toen ik jong was luisterde ik al naar jazz en blues, naar alles wat uit de Mississippi Delta kwam; ik ging naar folkbluesfestivals toe. In Engeland had je The Rolling Stones, Alexis Korner en The Pretty Things die aan blues deden.’ En in Holland was de tijd ook rijp. Voor néderblues. Natuurlijk waren ze niet de eerste Hollandse bluesband, maar werden wel de belangrijkste. Rob Hoeke was al actief sinds 1956, maar speelde vooral boogiewoogie. De Bintangs begonnen in 1961 als indo-rock ‘n rollers, voordat ze de bluesrock-kant opgingen. En Cuby + Blizzards hielden zich aanvankelijk met nederbeat bezig. Maar niet voor lang. ‘We zijn begonnen in de omgeving van Assen, in jeugdhonk het Brandpunt, drie uur lang vier nummers spelen, weetjewel.’ Muskee wordt daar letterlijk de kleren van het lijf gerukt.
