Sea Tigers Qualifiers Increase in SCS Long Course Senior Meet Series Sea Tigers qualifiers increase in SCS long course senior meet series Senior meets are meets where swimmers no longer compete in events divided by age (age group swimming). They, instead, must meet the minimum time standard for events. This long course season five senior meets where offered and of those five, three are considered high profile Southern California Swimming senior meets. They are considered high profile because not only are the qualifying times quite fast but the swimmers are prominent athletes in USA Swimming. Past participants have been from major universities such as UCLA, USC, CAL, and Stanford as well as past and present Olympians like Rebecca Soni, Natalie Coughlin, Missy Franklin, Dana Vollmer, Matt Grevers, Nathan Adrian, Ryan Murphy, and Michael Phelps. The three meets are the TYR Swim Meet Of Champions, Speedo Grand Challenge, and SCS Los Angeles Invite. Swimmers that competed in the senior meets are: Chelsea Ah-Quah, Brandon Burns, Julie Keipp, Sean Lagbao, Brandon Lam, Connor Lee, Max Lin, Tristan Lin, Jacob Mullin, Tammy Ta, and Allysan Tse. Swimmers that competed in the three high profile meets are: Sean Lagbao, Brandon Lam, Connor Lee, Max Lin, Tristan Lin, Jacob Mullin, Tammy Ta, and Allysan Tse. Even with the pressure of swimming with such highly accomplished athletes our swimmers held their own. SMOC : This meet took place at Mission Viejo on 4/28-5/1. The Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions is sponsored by TYR and named in honor of Fran Crippen. Fran was a long distance swimmer that changed to open water swimming and died during a competition in the United Arab Emirates in 2010. Connor swam a best time in the 100 back and the 100 breast. He placed 18th in the 200 fly. Jacob swam a best time in the 100 free and placed 18th in the 200 back. Grand Challenge: The Grand Challenge was held at Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine on 5/27-5/29. This meet is sponsored by Speedo and is different from the other two in that they offer a 12 and under age group. This year two 12 and under swimmers competed, Allysan Tse and Sean Lagbao. Sean swam a best time in the 50 fly. He also finished 12th in the 100 fly. Allysan swam a best time in the 50 back, 100 free, and 100 back. She finished 12th in the 50 and 100 back and 15th in the 100 free. Connor finished 19th in the 100 fly. He was a 15-year-old swimming next to college men. The swimmer to his right was a current swimmer at CAL and the swimmer to his left at USC. Jacob swam best times in all three of his entered events and he placed 16th in the 100 back and 17th in the 200 back. He kept up with swimmers from major universities such as CAL and USC. Tristan swam a best time in the 100 free. Los Angeles Invite: LAI took place on 7/14-7/15 at the Uytengsu Aquatic Center at USC. Again, high school swimmers competing against college men. Out of 106 participating teams we finished 23rd. Very impressive. Brandon Lam swam a best time in the 100 free,100 fly, and 200 back. Connor swam best times in the 200 fly, 200 free, 200 IM, and cut over 10 second in the 400 IM. He placed 19th in the 200 IM, 8th in the 200 fly, and 7th in the 100 fly. His time in the 200 fly was a Junior National bonus cut. Max cut almost 5 seconds in the 200 breast. Tristan swam a best time in the 50 free and cut over 4 seconds in the 200 breast. Jacob swam a best time in the 200 free, 100 fly, and over 3 second drop in the 200 IM. He placed 20th in the 200 IM and 8th in the 100 back. Congratulations to Sean Lagbao, Max Lin, Tristan Lin, and Allysan Tse for qualifying for their first high profile senior meet. .

SWIMMER’S NEWSLETTER FOR PRINCETON TIGER AQUATICS CLUB Tigers are Back in the Pool! by: Aditi Pavuluri It’s been a strange past few months for swimmers across the country, and one of the few times in history where there have been no competitions or practice taking place. The Olympics were postponed for the first time ever, and competitive swimmers across the globe are wondering when they can start competing again. As of two weeks ago, swimmers have taken to the pool for the first time in months. To pass the time, they’ve been working out over Zoom, and doing as much work as they could while still socially distanced. By working on technique, starts, turns, and speed, the Tigers have been trying to get in as much swimming as they can to make up for lost time. It will be a fresh start for us, and a way to start using muscles that haven’t been awoken in months. And though we’ve been staying in shape, we might not necessarily have been staying in swimming shape. Getting back into the pool is something that every swimmer is having to experience, and know that we’re in this together. So right now is the perfect time to improve on something that you’ve been holding off on during competition season. Our perspective might have to change from “getting back to where we came from” to “how far we can go”. Take advantage of this new and unusual time to better yourself as a swimmer. Go Tigers! SWIMMER’S NEWSLETTER FOR PRINCETON TIGER AQUATICS CLUB Monthly Motivation Ready for Normal.

My perspective is one as a college coach, which I understand Q. Ryan, how did the year-long delay impact your the balance of intercollegiate athletics and academic training approach, your mental approach, just your pursuits, which also includes professional pursuits that go overall build-up to the games? beyond the sport of swimming. Sometimes those professional goals do not involve swimming. Some of RYAN MURPHY: Yeah, so I think the build-up to the those professional life goals, as our guys get a little bit games was interesting in the fact that there actually was a older, a little bit more wise, a little more understanding that build-up in terms of what we were allowed to do at Cal. I they, that the sport that they have loved as a kid or even as think as the initial shutdown came down, we weren't able to adult, their priorities have changed, and we appreciate that.
