Condition/Concern Some customers may comment of a Service Engine Soon light being illuminated or a crank no start concern. Upon inspection, DTCs P0016 and/or P0017 will be stored. This may be the result of a camshaft reluctor that has moved on the camshaft. The reluctor is a press fit and is not indexed/keyed to the camshaft--it is an interference type fit. An overheat condition may contribute to the concern, causing the reluctor to spin on the camshaft when hot. If the reluctor spins far enough, it can create a crank no start condition. 1 Recommendation/Instructions Important: The procedure below was developed for 2006 and newer 2.4L LE5 engines.

Condition/Concern In rare instances a technician may comment they hear a short, sharp rattle noise from the front of the engine at start up. P0011 P0014 P0016 or P0017 may also set during this condition. Recommendation/Instructions If the noise is from the front accessory drive area, inspect the engine belt. We have seen concerns with engine belts causing a loud ticking type noise. Vehicles with hydraulic power steering, verify power steering pulley outer edge is aligned flush with shaft and repair as needed. If pulley alignment is correct or vehicle does not have hydraulic steering, replace the engine belt. If the noise is still present and is very short and sharp in duration (2-5 seconds). This may be an issue with the cam actuators not parking properly.
