Dear Proprietor

RE: The Marathon 2018 – Notification of event on Sunday 14th October.

I am writing to notify you of The Leicester Marathon and Half Marathon taking place on Sunday 14th October 2018. As you will see from the map below, the marathon route runs through your area and may cause some disruption as a number of road closures and waiting restrictions will be introduced to ensure the safety of runners, local residents and the general public.

THE MARATHON ROUTE IN YOUR AREA

Access will be possible during the event however we ask that you please be extra careful when driving and keep your speed to a minimum during the times below as there will be runners on the left hand side of the road.

You may encounter marshals with Stop / Go boards at certain junctions. We ask that you please obey any instructions given by our volunteer marshals on the day.

The full marathon loop passes through on the way out and on the way back again with approximately 1,000 runners on this section. As they get further into the 26 miles the field does spread out and as such any junctions in your area are covered by Traffic Management with Stop / Go boards to facilitate access on the day. Please be courteous to runners and volunteers marshalling and We expect restrictions to be in place between the following estimated times: be extra careful when driving in the area on this day.

09:15am – 10:50am Barkby Lane, Lane, Rd, Main St, Road

We ask that you be patient during these times and to please obey any instructions from our volunteer marshals. Please note that roads on the route itself may be subject to no waiting, loading and unloading restrictions during these times. This has been decided following discussion between the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services and the County Council’s public safety officers. Would you, therefore, please arrange for any vehicle(s) (including skips and builders materials) you may have on the roads named above to be removed before any restrictions are implemented.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but hope that you will understand the reason for this temporary measure. Every year The Leicester Marathon sees thousands of pounds raised for local charities so please do take the time to join in and show your support for the runners as they pass through your area. Thank you in advance for your understanding. Full details of road closures will be added to our website over the next few weeks at leicestermarathon.org.uk/road-closures, or if you have a specific enquiry please send us an email to the address below.

Yours faithfully
