SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS SUCCESSFUL YEAR GROUP UPDATES CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUALS CONFIDENT Reception: We have had a super week learning about slugs and snails. We made art in the style of 'Matisse', using collage Doves and Ducks materials and watercolour paints to create different minibeasts. In maths, we have been revising 2D and 3D shapes. The children have sorted these shapes in different ways and we have practised shape vocabulary throughout the week. In English, we have explored books, videos and PowerPoints about snails and slugs, even going on a slug hunt and creating our own slug menagerie! Next week, we are going to learn about bees, focussing on their importance to sustain plant growth and flowers! We shall be learning how bees communicate and work as a team and trying to consciously practise this during our play. In maths, we are going to learn about 'capacity', exploring different containers and predicting which will hold more liquid. This will also be great for cooling us off if the weather stays hot! Well done, Ducks and Doves - another great week! Year 1: It has been yet another wonderful week in Year 1! We have been counting within 100 and beginning to use a 100 square Skylarks and Swallows in Maths. In English, we have been building up to writing a letter to Greenpeace based on the book ‘Dear Greenpeace’ by Simon James. The children have produced some very impressive written work and had an opportunity to really show off everything they know. In our topic work, we have been learning about ways to save the rainforests and endangered species as well as working on collage skills to create a rainforest. Well done, Swallows and Skylarks! Year 2: Red Kites and Robins have had a fantastic week. This week, Red Kites and Robins we have been exploring explanation texts in English. We read some examples and then collated all of the features of explanation texts as a whole class. We also had an opportunity to use drama in our English, where we created actions to show the life cycle of a frog. In Maths, we have been exploring mass and capacity. We used multi-link to help us with our work of weighing in grams and an online game to help us with weighing in kilograms. We have also been exploring how animals change in science this week. We watched a video about the life cycle of a frog and discussed key vocabulary about species of animals and learned a new scientific word- metamorphosis! Best of all, we got to have a marble treat on Thursday afternoon as a reward for all of our hard work over the last few weeks! We’re looking forward to all of the learning we will be doing next week. Year 3: Arthur B and Brawin B Alder and Ash We were working out angles and turns in Maths. We also did time durations to see how long something took. We wrote poems, there were two types Haiku and Tank poems. We did fun games in basketball and a dribbling relay. We learnt not to boast if we win! Then we did some serious camping! We played lots of games in the woods, investigated how clean the River Thames is by studying the creatures that live in it, learnt about eco systems and habitats and practiced camouflaging ourselves in the wild. We also learnt how to live with earwigs and how many extra clothes you should take when camping!! We might have come home a little early and a little wet but we definitely had lots of fun. An overnight camp to remember! Year 6: This week, we have started preparing for our school play Spruce and Sycamore “Through the Decades” which includes learning songs like ‘Wannabe’ ‘Rock around the Clock’ and ‘Don’t Stop Moving’. The scripts will be written by Year 6 and there will be acting and dancing. Unfortunately, owing to Covid we cannot perform on stage and instead will film it, hopefully the production will still be enjoyable and maybe even better than usual?! In English, we are writing scary stories based on a short film about a girl called Alma who gets trapped inside a doll. It is very scary. In PE, we have started doing cricket and we played games to do with batting and bowling. Ariyah A-M and Finley M Caversham Primary School, Hemdean Road, Reading.
