October 2011.Qxd KNOW YOUR CANDIDATES! Please find CRPA’s recommendations for candidates in the upcoming election inside this packet. For more information and updates about the election and candidates visit CRPA’s website at www.crpa.org/election-guide. This election cycle is unlike any we have witnessed in many years. Americans in general, and Californians in particular, are in an epic struggle to preserve our right to keep and bear firearms for ourselves and future generations. This election cycle, our freedoms are under siege from opportunistic and power hungry politicians. These politicians are pushing dozens of bad laws in Sacramento, additionally, we face a new threat from an initiative that is being pushed by Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom. Newsom’s initiative would do nothing to stop criminals and will cost law- abiding gun owners more time and money. Read more about this latest assault at www.coalitionforcivilliberties.com. The winning side of any election is the one that is able to most effectively mobilize their supporters to the polls. CRPA is working to get every gun owner registered and out to vote in June and November. To achieve this, we are taking advantage of advancements in communication technology and election strategy. If we are to be successful, CRPA must adopt these new technologies and techniques. To accomplish this, the CRPA needs your help to rebuild and optimize the CRPA campaign machine by donating to CRPA. Succeeding will also require each and every gun owner to rise up, vote, and get involved in reinvigorating the movement to protect the right to keep and bear arms. There are an estimated 18 million gun owners in California. If everyone steps up we could change the face of California. To do this, we need funds to register gun owners and get them to the polls. Another way to help is to volunteer, if you are able, please email [email protected]. Addition- ally, you can spread our message on social media and subscribe to CRPA’s alerts, then share and forward these messages to ALL of your friends. Dedicated individuals like you are the ones who secure and protect our rights for future generations here in California. Please help us continue this ongoing fight to ensure that common sense prevails. • California Elections and Community College Measures November 2016 Election Round up November 14, 2016
California Elections and Community College Measures November 2016 Election Round Up November 14, 2016 OVERVIEW While the election was last week, ballots are still being counted and final certified results are due to the Secretary of State for presidential electors on December 6, 2016, and for all other state contests on December 9, 2016. The Secretary of State will certify the statewide results by December 16, 2016. Until the results are certified, the outcome of close races may change from what is presented below. Focusing on results affecting California Community Colleges, the election provided mostly positive results including the passage of the statewide bond measure, Proposition 51, as well as a number of local bonds. Californians passed several tax measures including Proposition 55, which will continue to provide funding for education. Voters in San Francisco passed an extension of the parcel tax to help fund the City College of San Francisco as well as another local measure that increases the transfer tax rate for sales of residential and commercial properties. Proponents state, that with the passage of this measure, the City of San Francisco could provide free community college. Funds from this local measure will go to the City’s general fund; however, in July, the Board of Supervisors passed a resolution making the City College of San Francisco free for residents a top priority for the new revenue. If results hold in the State Assembly, the Democrats will have gained a supermajority with three seats switching party hands. However, this could change because one of those seats remains a close contest in Assembly District 55 and all three changes are needed for a supermajority.

Newsletter December 2, 2016 Thank you for your commitment to the future of agriculture and our membership. Attention California wheat industry members: We invite you to attend the next California Association of Wheat Growers Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, December 7. We will engage in discussion and review legislative priorities for the coming year and look forward to a productive meeting. The California Wheat Commission Board of Directors Meeting will follow directly after the Association's meeting so please take advantage and attend both meetings to learn what current efforts are underway in policy, marketing and research that affects the California wheat industry. Executive Director - Nick Matteis California Election Update by Dennis Albiani, Legislative Advocate The votes have been tallied and while most of the nation witnessed a wave of Republican victories in Washington and state capitals, here in California, Democrats have secured a two-thirds supermajority in both the Assembly and Senate. In the Assembly, the Democrats picked up the necessary two Republican seats to gain a two-thirds supermajority. Democrat Josh Newman defeated Assembly Member Ling Ling Chang for the 29th Senate District. In two rematches, former Democrat Assembly Member Al Muratuschi regained his seat taken by Republican Assembly Member David Hadley (District 66) and former Democrat Assembly Member Sharon Quirk-Silva (District 65) regained her seat taken by Republican Assembly Member Young Kim (District 65). Democrat challenger Sabrina Cervantes also edged out incumbent Republican Assembly Member Eric Linder (District 60). In two other races, Assembly Member Catharine Baker (District 16) was able to fend off a challenge from Democrat Cheryl Cook-Kallio and Assembly Member Marc Steinorth (District 40) defeated Democrat Abigail Medina.
