June 2015 Scott King Wins the Moten Award By Megan Willis, Electrical Engineering Technician

This year’s Moten Award winner is Scott King, Electric Distribution Manager. Scott helped implement the North- west Lineman’s College Lineworker Certification Program for the San Marcos Electric Utility (SMEU) maintenance crews.

This program is used as the curriculum component of apprenticeship leading to journeyman certification and is recognized by utility company associations and statewide organizations. On-the-job training is the other component of this certification program. Upon successful completion of both the curriculum and the on-the-job training com- ponents, employees will earn Northwest Lineman College certification. The program takes four years to complete. 8 Robin Wood Says Farewell By Deb Tomaselli, Program and Outreach Librarian

Robin Wood said farewell to the city as Adult Services Librarian on March 26. She began her 30-year career shelving books as a library page at the Hutchison Street library while pursuing a degree in fashion merchandising at Texas State University. Over the years she moved forward as a clerk, then as a library assistant, and finally as a librarian after earning a master’s degree in library science from the University of Texas at Austin.

Robin brought outstanding adult programming to library patrons including the “Philosophy Dialogues” series with Texas State faculty, many evenings of “Music at the Library” with local musicians, and 11 consecutive years of the annual “Texas Author Day” with Texas writers and artists. Summer reading programs at the library came to life when she and her husband, “Dirty Car Artist” Scott Wade, joined forces to produce larger-than-life props and fun decorations. She also worked on the city web team, coordinated tax form Driving Safety services for customers, created hundreds of publicity materials, and took Alex Laws and Mandy Riske accept the Na- thousands of photos.
