SURPRISE! After the disappearance of Emily, couldn’t face going back to the house. Just what had happened? One day she was thumping the bathroom door telling her to hurry up, and next she screamed and squealed. It was high pitched and loud. Adele could hear smashing and breaking sounds. She pushed the door open and … what looked like blood stains were on the towels, broken glass on the floor but no sign of Emily. It was strange. As strange as any fiction mystery story she had read. It seemed like a mayhem, a mess. Suddenly, Adele heard footsteps coming up the stairs, her parents were at work and their big brother was at university. Adele felt very strange; first Emily disappeared leaving the bathroom and window battered then footsteps from down stairs. She quickly ran into the bathroom and quickly locked the doors. Suddenly, a rock was thrown into the room. It had a scent of Emily’s perfume. Then again another rock, slightly bigger, fell into the room with a note attached. Adele opened it up. The writing was in a yellow, a burnt, damp yellow. It said “IF YOU WANT TO GET THIS GIRL BACK, YOU MUST GIVE US THE SUITCASE IN THIS GIRL’S BEDROOM!” Adele was confused. As she looked out of the window, cold wind pushed against her cheek. She climbed onto the sink and onto the window ledge. A strong blast from the wind made her fall. She screamed but no sound came out. Sweating she picked herself up and looked down at what she landed on. It was a soft mattress. Wow! This was a weird kidnapper. She thought about it. Adele saw a white trail of sand. She followed it and half way of the path there was a party hat. She just remembered it was her birthday. Was this one of those things where a trail led to where your birthday party was? But it couldn’t be. Blood stains on the towels and walls? A mystery, she thought. The trail lead to the school where the windows were all boarded up like they always were … but something else was different. A shadowy figure appeared behind . It came out. Adele covered her face, her heart was pounding and shoulders shaking. He came out. It was her brother, Jake. “Hi, what are you doing here?” Adele blushed and felt silly. “Oh really?” he said, when she told him what had happened and he sounded like he was hiding something. “Let’s check for Emily at home, she might still be there.” But after the disappearance of Emily, Adele couldn’t face going back to the house. He persuaded her to go with him and when they got there it was weird because there were flashing lights in the house. Emily opened the door! And her whole family came out of the door. “Happy birthday!” Everyone took time to tell Adele what had happened. The blood on the walls was her sister’s paints, the smashed window and the trail was a distraction. The sound of the footsteps was Jake waking up. Her family were full of surprises. A Tan 7D
