Our Eligibility Scrutineer has asked all competitors to be aware that it is always the competitor’s ultimate responsibility (not any preparer’s or owner’s) to ensure that their car is no less than the relevant minimum weight shown for their car model in the list appended to the Championship Regulations or if the weight is “by application”, then the weight is agreed with the Registrar and as shown on the car’s HSCC VIF. For our championship, any other “official” weight, such as Nigel Edwards the FIA homologated weight is irrelevant. In the context of minimum weight, please note this is the “dry” weight of the car ready to run i.e. other fluids such as coolant and oil etc. in place but with no fuel whatsoever. Consequently, “I used more fuel than I expected” is not a valid reason for being underweight (the only valid excuse might be if an actual piece of the car was lost during the event!). The Eligibility Scrutineer can ask any competitor whose car is near the minimum weight to remove any remaining fuel and then to re-weigh the car. Similarly, it is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that their car meets the 100mm minimum ground clearance, as set out in our Championship Regulations, with driver seated normally (i.e. as the car finished the event).

SUMP SEALING The value of being seen to comply with our Technical Regulations regarding engine capacity should be obvious to all. To minimise “paddock grumbles”, our Eligibility Scrutineer Nigel Edwards has offered to measure any competitor’s engine’s cylinder bore and stroke whenever the cylinder head is off and then “wire seal” the sump, thereby effectively certifying the cylinder capacity. The cost will be simply £10 to cover MSA seal materials and a contribution to his travel costs would be welcome. We believe this to be a cost-effective way of moving towards confidence that all cars are compliant with their correct specification, thereby promoting more demonstrably fair racing and hence encouraging more cars and competitors to join us at the circuit.
