It is a zesty, savvy and ambitious original. -Chicago Tribune It is one of the very few new Broadway shows that actually looks and sounds like the world of today. -Toronto Star ****************************************************************************** December 7, 2015 Original Broadway Cast member Jackie Burns (If/Then, Wicked, Hair), Tamyra Gray (American Idol Season One Finalist, Rent), and Matthew Hydzik (Side Show, West Side Story, Grease), will join Original Broadway Cast member Anthony Rapp (Rent, Six Degrees of Separation, You ) and the rest of the previously announced cast in the National Tour of IF/THEN, starting Wednesday, January 27 at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas. Following the one-week engagement in Dallas, the National Tour of IF/THEN will then continue to play major cities across North America through August 2016. For a complete list of tour cities, click here. IF/THEN will come to Cleveland February 9 21, 2016, as part of the KeyBank Broadway Series at Playhouse Square. IF/THEN is an original Broadway musical which reunites composer Tom Kitt, book writer/lyricist Brian Yorkey, and director Michael Greif, the creative team behind the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, Next to Normal. IF/THEN is a contemporary new musical that follows two distinct storylines in the life of Elizabeth, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life in the city of infinite possibilities. When her carefully designed plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth IF/THEN follows both stories simultaneously as this modern woman faces the intersection of choice and chance. Jackie Burns will play Elizabeth, a woman on the verge of turning 40 whose smallest decisions or most random occurrences will impact her world in ways she never dreamt possible. Jackie recently played the role of Elizabeth in IF/THEN on Broadway, and has also played the iconic role of Elphaba in Wicked, both on Broadway and in the First National Tour. She starred in the 2009 Tony Award-winning revival of Hair, and also appeared in the original Off-Broadway cast of Rock of Ages. Anthony Rapp will play Lucas, an old college friend of Elizabeth, who reconnects with her when she moves back to New York City. Anthony is best known for originating the role of Mark Cohen in Jonathan Larson -winning musical, Rent. His other Broadway credits include his Broadway debut in Precious Sons with Judith Ivey and Ed Harris, for which he received an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama Desk nomination; the original company of John Guare Six Degrees of Separation; and the revival of You Tamyra Gray, who will play Kate, an elementary school teacher and Elizabeth new neighbor, is best known as one of the Top 4 finalists of the first season of Idol. Bombay Dreams in 2004, followed by playing Mimi Marquez in Rent. She penned the songs "I Believe" for Fantasia Barrino and "You Thought Wrong" for Kelly Clarkson. Matthew Hydzik will play Josh, a handsome doctor and army reservist who meets Elizabeth on her first day back in New York City. Mr. Hydzik s Broadway credits include Side Show, West Side Story and Grease, to name a few. His National Tour credits include Rent, Fame, Grease and Flashdance. The production also features Janine DiVita, who will play Anne, Daren A. Herbert, who will play Stephen, and Marc de la Cruz, who will play David. The ensemble includes English Bernhardt, Charissa Bertels, Xavier Cano, Trey Ellett, Kyra Faith, Corey Greenan, Cliffton Hall, Deedee Magno Hall, Tyler McGee, Joseph Morales, Emily Rogers, and Alicia Taylor Tomasko.     If/Then Lights Up PPAC It is not every day that we have a chance to see Broadway caliber performances here in our creative capitol. PPAC is changing that this weekend with the national tour of If/Then. This beautiful show ran for a year on Broadway and is completing its tour in New England, with three of the Broadway performers, Jackie Burns, Anthony Rapp and Tamara Gray. It’s exciting for audience members, and it’s also exciting for those in the theater. Caitlyn Dipompo, PPAC’s marketing projects specialist notes, “There is additional excitement around the theater when OBC members perform here. Not everyone has the chance to see these productions on Broadway with the original cast, so it is really special for people to see someone like Anthony Rapp or Jackie Burns right here in Providence, at their hometown theater.” Rapp, theatergoers will know from RENT, as Marc Cohen, and longtime PPAC audience members will remember his reprisal of that role in 2009 on tour. Burns stepped in for powerhouse Idina Menzel on Broadway, and took over Menzel’s leg of the national tour. Of course a musical that originally starred Menzel and Rapp will make even the novice RENThead reminiscent for Jonathan’s Larson’s musical. Rapp acknowledges that “there is some DNA they both share, and that many fans have remarked that and it’s very meaningful to Tom (Kitt) and Brian (Yorkey).” As an actress, you know that any role written for Idina Menzel is going to be pretty darn fabulous. This is something that Burns repeats with a smile.

    By: Natalie Kates April 2006 Rent Star, Anthony Rapp, Speaks at FSU On April 3, Rent star Anthony Rapp shared with a packed crowd at Florida State University’s Ruby Diamond Auditorium stories about his newest book, the Rent movie, and his experiences acting in the Broadway musical. According to Rapp, “Rent has been my favorite role because it has spoken to young people and has served as a voice for progressive thought in an often conservative country.” Critics have considered Rent to be highly controversial because of its subject matter concerning AIDS, drugs, homosexuality, and transsexual lifestyles. Rapp, 35, has been acting since he was 10. He is most famous for his Broadway performances in Rent and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. He has acted in movies, including Dazed and Confused, Road Trip, Twister, a Beautiful Mind and Cruise Control. He’s also appeared on Law & Order and the X-files. By far, Rapp considers his part as Mark Cohen in Rent to also be his most famous role. “I love playing parts. To get to do something like Rent that puts together everything I believe in is very invigorating and incredible to be a part of,” said Rapp. When Rapp came onstage, the audience broke into applause since many ‘Rentheads’, as Rent fans are often called, came to hear him speak. “Each time I listen to Rent, I take in more and more from the songs and they mean more to me each time I hear them played,” said ‘Renthead’ fan, Amy Purifoy. The three main people who hosted this event were Griffith, Allison Segal, Manager of Student Life Cinema, and Allison Parkin, volunteer at Student Life Cinema.

    THE RCA RECORDS LABEL ___________________________________________ RCA RECORDS TO RELEASE AMERICAN IDOL: GREATEST MOMENTS ON OCTOBER 1 On the heels of crowning Kelly Clarkson as America's newest pop superstar, RCA Records is proud to announce the release of American Idol: Greatest Moments on Oct. 1. The first full-length album of material from Fox's smash summer television hit, "American Idol," will include four songs by Clarkson, two by runner-up Justin Guarini, a song each by the remaining eight finalists, and “California Dreamin’” performed by all ten. All 14 tracks on American Idol: Greatest Moments, produced by Steve Lipson (Backstreet Boys, Annie Lennox), were performed on "American Idol" during the final weeks of the reality-based television barnburner. In addition to Kelly and Justin, the show's remaining eight finalists featured on the album include Nikki McKibbon, Tamyra Gray, EJay Day, RJ Helton, AJ Gil, Ryan Starr, Christina Christian, and Jim Verraros. Producer Steve Lipson, who put the compilation together in an unprecedented two-weeks time, finds a range of pop gems on the album. "I think Kelly's version of ‘Natural Woman' is really strong. Her vocals are brilliant. She sold me on the song completely. I like Christina's 'Ain't No Sunshine.' I think she got the emotion of it across well. Nikki is very good as well -- very underestimated. And Tamyra is brilliant too so there's not much more to say about her." RCA Records will follow American Idol: Greatest Moments with the debut album from “American Idol” champion Kelly Clarkson in the first quarter of 2003.

    ABSTRACT Title of Document: “OVER THE MOON”: THE CREATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF RENT BY JONATHAN LARSON Elizabeth Titrington, Master of Arts, 2007 Directed By: Professor Richard King Chair, Department of Musicology Despite its critical acclaim and commercial success , the hit musical Rent by Jonathan Larson has received scant attention in academic literature. The story of Rent has been told and retold in the popular media, but a look at Larson’s own drafts, notes, and other personal wri tings adds another important and largely missing voice – Larson’s own. In this study, I use the Jonathan Larson Collection, donated to the Library of Congress in 2004 , to examine this seminal work and composer by tracing Rent ’s development and documenting L arson’s creative process. Interestingly, movie critic RogerAmerican Ebert Idol’s mounted criticism against Palin for being “the American Idol candidate,” in which he argued the following: I think I might be able to explain some of Sarah Palin’s appeal. She’s the “American Idol” candidate. Consider. What defines an “American Idol” finalist? They’re good‑looking, work well on television, have a sunny personality, are fierce competitors, and so talented, why, they’re darned near the real thing.
