Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance March 2021 Mr. Speaker, I rise to update this Honourable Chamber on the current refurbishment and repairs now being carried out on the East Wing of the iconic, historical and hallowed buildings known as the Parliament Buildings. 2. The Parliament Buildings, which were built between 1870 and 1874 some 147 years ago, have been the meeting place of both Chambers of Parliament since 16th June, 1874. The Parliament Buildings consist of two (2) buildings built in the 1 Neo-Gothic architectural style, reminiscent of the Victorian era of Great Britain. 3. The East Wing of Parliament features timber flooring with some sections of the ground floor area in concrete. The building was designed from those early times to be ventilated by natural ventilation, as is evident by the large windows and doors. 4. In recent years however, the building has developed several environmental problems resulting in its occupants complaining of feeling unwell when using it, which has forced in the subsequent evacuation of persons from the severely affected rooms. As a result of these problems, Parliament has therefore been temporarily resited from 24th February, 2020 and is currently operating from here at the Worthing Corporate Centre in Worthing, Christ Church. I should note here that occurrences like this involving complaints from staff and users of Crown properties about less than satisfactory environmental conditions and air quality over the years have been increasing and efforts are underway to redress these problems. 2 5.

    Report of the Canadian Parliamentary Delegation to the 54th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference Canadian Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia August 1-10, 2008 and Bilateral Visit to Singapore August 10-14, 2008 Report The delegation of the Canadian Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association which attended the 54th Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from August 1 to 10, 2008, and which participated in a bilateral visit to Singapore from August 10 to 14, 2008 has the honour to present its report. 54th CPA Conference, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia More that 650 parliamentarians and parliamentary officials from approximately 170 member national, state, provincial and territorial Parliaments and Legislatures around the Commonwealth attended the meetings in Kuala Lumpur as guests of the Parliament, government and peoples of Malaysia from August 1 to 10, 2008. The Canadian Branch was represented by the following delegates: Hon. Raynell Andreychuk, Senator Hon. David Smith, Senator Russ Hiebert, M.P., Chair of the Canadian Branch, Leader of the delegation and Regional Representative Michel Guimond, M.P. Irene Mathyssen, M.P. Joe Preston, M.P. Yasmin Ratansi, M.P. The members of the Canadian Branch delegation were part of a 35 member Canadian Region delegation to the Conference, representing the provincial and territorial legislative bodies of the Canadian Region. The official start date for the Conference was August 4th, however as in previous years, several delegates from the Canadian Region arrived in time to participate as either delegates or observers at the Small Countries Conference and as delegates at the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Business Session which were held from August 1st to 4th .

Information Leaflet No. 21 Titles – A Primer The Peerage – There are five grades of the peerage: 1) Duke, 2) Marquess, 3) Earl, 4) Viscount and 5) Baron (England, GB, UK)/Lord of Parliament (Scotland). Over the centuries, certain customs and traditions have been established regarding styles and forms of address; they follow below: a. Duke & Duchess: Formal style: "The Most Noble the Duke of (title); although this is now very rare; the style is more usually, “His Grace the Duke of (Hamilton), and his address is, "Your Grace" or simply, "Duke” or “Duchess.” The eldest son uses one of his father's subsidiary titles as a courtesy. Younger sons use "Lord" followed by their first name (e.g., Lord David Scott); daughters are "Lady" followed by their first name (e.g., Lady Christina Hamilton); in conversation, they would be addressed as Lord David or Lady Christina. The same rules apply to eldest son's sons and daughters. The wife of a younger son uses”Lady” prior to her husbands name, (e.g. Lady David Scot) b. Marquess & Marchioness: Formal style: "The Most Honourable the Marquess/Marchioness (of) (title)" and address is "My Lord" or e.g., "Lord “Bute.” Other rules are the same as dukes. Earl & Countess: Formal style: "The Right Honourable the Earl/Countess (of) (title)” and address style is the same as for a marquess.
