For Immediate Release Mouser Electronics, Marvel and Grant Imahara Present New Empowering Innovation Together Series New project introduces Mouser Innovation Lab, brings Super Hero technology to life April 20, 2016 — Mouser Electronics, Inc., a leading global authorized distributor of the newest electronic components, today announced the launch of a new series in the second year of the Empowering Innovation Together™ program with former Mythbusters star and longtime Mouser customer, Grant Imahara. The new program will also see the debut of the Mouser Innovation Lab™, where Imahara and special guests will build several cutting-edge projects powered by the newest products and technologies from Mouser’s manufacturer partners. In the first project Mouser will team up with Marvel to build Super Hero technology straight from the movie Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War — including real-life working versions of Captain America’s shield and Iron Man’s gauntlet. Grant Imahara will team up with viral video celebrity Allen Pan in a series of videos to highlight the full build process — from concept to the final unveiling. This first project is sponsored by Molex and Analog Devices, who will supply new, advanced parts for the challenging build. “With Mouser combining engineering and Marvel’s characters into an entertaining and easy to understand STEM-oriented video segment, it will help students and others gain new insights into the technology field,” stated Mindy Hamilton, Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships at Marvel Entertainment LLC. “We enjoy working with any partner that helps to highlight the benefits that STEM brings to young minds.” “I’m really excited to get into the new Mouser Innovation Lab and start working on these cool devices from the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Imahara. -

www.RyanBanksAcademy.org [email protected] Instagram and Twitter: @RyanBanksCHI Facebook: facebook.com/RyanBanksChi “I believe that in communities with high youth violence, 24/7 urban boarding schools can provide a safe environment and give kids a chance to be successful. Our schools should be community centers with a wide variety of after school and social/emotional programming. I believe ini- tiatives like Ryan Banks Academy can be game changers in addressing the issue of youth violence, which is a public health crisis.” - Arne Duncan, Former U.S. Secretary of Education Who is Ryan Banks? The vision for Ryan Banks Academy was born from tragedy. Ryan Banks was a happy-go-lucky 12 year old boy who was enthusiastic, full of life, always curious, and loved to make others laugh. While he had a difficult upbringing and had every reason to be angry, he was one of the happiest seventh graders to ever walk the hallways of New Sullivan Elementary School, on Chicago’s far-east side. But on May 19, 2012, Niazi “Ryan” Banks was shot and killed by gun- fire. Ryan was a very special child who had the entire world ahead of him. However, Ryan is just one of far too many Chicago students who are lost to gun violence each year. In addition to the chil- dren and teens who are lost to senseless acts of violence, thousands more fall through the cracks in other ways—those who do not receive the proper academic and social/emotional sup- port they need at the school level, live in an unsafe neighborhood, and those who are dealing with trauma within their family environment. -

IRONIC FEMINISM: RHETORICAL CRITIQUE IN SATIRICAL NEWS A Dissertation Presented to the Graduate School of Clemson University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design by Kathy Elrick December 2016 Accepted by Dr. David Blakesley, Committee Chair Dr. Jeff Love Dr. Brandon Turner Dr. Victor J. Vitanza ABSTRACT Ironic Feminism: Rhetorical Critique in Satirical News aims to offer another perspective and style toward feminist theories of public discourse through satire. This study develops a model of ironist feminism to approach limitations of hegemonic language for women and minorities in U.S. public discourse. The model is built upon irony as a mode of perspective, and as a function in language, to ferret out and address political norms in dominant language. In comedy and satire, irony subverts dominant language for a laugh; concepts of irony and its relation to comedy situate the study’s focus on rhetorical contributions in joke telling. How are jokes crafted? Who crafts them? What is the motivation behind crafting them? To expand upon these questions, the study analyzes examples of a select group of popular U.S. -
