Jericho Low Traffic Neighbourhood Group Committee members for election AGM: 6pm (GMT), Tuesday the 1st of December 2020 Positions

I am committed to introducing a low traffic neighbourhood into Jericho and Walton Manor that a majority of local residents and businesses support. It is essential that all sectors of the community are engaged in the conversation and can express their views. As chair of the Jericho Low Traffic Neighbourhood group for the last year I have worked hard to ensure not only that all views are represented but also that we work together to consider not only our own street-by-street interests but those of our community as a Jamie Hartzell whole. When I moved to from a village in the West Country 5 years ago, my principal preoccupation was not having off-street parking. But it didn’t take long to realise that it’s much cheaper, healthier and more fun to walk, bike, take the bus and use taxis and car-sharing around Oxford and beyond, so I took the plunge and got rid of my car completely. I do feel vulnerable on a bike at times and, breathing hard, I can even taste the traffic pollution whenever I venture out. For those reasons alone I would love a local low traffic neighbourhood. I believe the benefits would be enormous for all of us – reducing pollution and congestion, nudging us into more active travel and increasing a sense of community by encouraging us out of our metal boxes. I look forward to sauntering amongst all the lovely shops, cafes and restaurants in Jericho in more pleasant and Kate Seal less frantic and dangerous atmosphere. I’m standing for election to Treasurer the JLTN committee so I can do what I can to make a better local Kingston Road environment for all of us.

I have been living in Oxford since 1972, first in Walton Manor and since 2001 in Jericho. I am passionate about climate and pollution control, using local car hire since giving mine up 7 years ago, and I cycle (almost) everywhere in Oxford. I love my family, choral singing, live classical music, jazz, good food - and Krishna, my recently acquired Border Terrier puppy.

I am standing for the Jericho LTN executive committee as I am committed to much better traffic management throughout Jericho and Walton Manor. Vehicle traffic allows many of us to lead comfortable lives but at the same time can impose a considerable burden on people, through noise and environmental pollution. I am committed to cardinal principles of traffic management that include 1) an equitable distribution of traffic 2) minimising vehicle traffic where appropriate and practical 3) vehicle traffic takes the shortest route to the main arterial roads. I believe the Jericho LTN plans provide for these and other cardinal principles and I would very Patrick Davey much like to help implement them further. St. Bernard's Road

I am a resident of and postgraduate student at Green Templeton. I am very conscious that many of the residents around the area, both young and old, live largely without the use of cars. I am keen that we make our streets and town spaces as liveable and pleasant as possible, while striking a balance with the residents and businesses who need traffic arrangements practical to commute and work. I think we can work towards a compromise that reclaims more of our streets for pedestrians and cyclists while maintaining an equitable flow of necessary traffic through Jericho and Walton Will Leben Manor. Mike is a semi-retired consulting engineer brought up in New Zealand but has lived in and around Oxford for the last 26 years. Mike enjoys working on community initiatives, having previously been involved in raising funds from about 300 villagers to buy the local pub and then sitting on the management committee, and was also involved in bringing fibre internet to a group of villages surrounding Oxford.

I am standing for the Jericho LTN executive committee because as a member of the Jericho community and a keen cyclist I am passionate about the area I live in. I am an advocate of safer, less polluted streets and neighbourhoods and want to be part of making that a reality for Jericho.

I am standing for the Jericho LTN Committee because I have seen for myself the benefits brought to at least some of Jericho by the reduction in traffic following the Closure, and would like to help find a permanent solution that reduces traffic across the whole of Jericho and Walton Manor and benefits the whole area. I am also a keen cyclist and would like to see much more done to encourage (rather than just enforce) more journeys to be taken on foot and by bicycle. Daniel Ponsonby Talbot Walton Street

I have been Secretary to the Residents’ Association (SJSARA) for the past 8 years and should like the opportunity to represent my area’s interests as the development of the Jericho Low Traffic Neighbourhood progresses.

Although it may look on the map as though the St John Street area is self-contained, it is by no means separate and is very vulnerable to developments in the surrounding area. It also has problems of its own with rat-running and (in normal times) tourist coaches, issues we hope will be addressed Penelope Lenon within the strategy for Jericho and Walton Manor. St John Street In my time with the SJSARA I have developed useful contacts with both County and City authorities. I have also recently become a trustee of the Oxford Civic Society, which could provide a useful channel for the exchange of ideas and information.

I am a second year computer science student at Somerville College. By standing for the committee, I am hoping to be a voice for the university community in the area. Clearly the large student population of Jericho would overwhelmingly benefit from the changes brought about by a Low Traffic Neighbourhood. I would love to be part of these changes and help shape the future of this beautiful area.

I have only lived on Kingston Rd for two years, so I am a relative new comer to the ins and outs of traffic in Jericho/Walton Manor over the years. With my neighbour Peggy Frith we decided last month we were tired of traffic Jan Maulden using Kingston Road as a racetrack and so put up the speed Kingston Road signs outside out house and leafletted the street to encourage others to get involved and do likewise and to offer limited material support! I also cut down all the plant growth which obscured the lighting-up speed sign on the west side of the street [with the permission of the owner of the plants].

Robin and I have lived on Kingston Road since 1978. After a gap living elsewhere in Oxford, we returned 13 years ago, before we retired. We have greatly appreciated the community feel of the neighbourhood. But we have been increasingly concerned about the traffic passing very close to our house, particularly the commercial traffic and some very heavy lorries which try to use the road as a rat-run, even since the closure of Walton Street. I would like to help achieve a solution to the problem of traffic which is of benefit fairly to all neighbouring roads. I propose with my neighbour Jan Maulden that we do a job share, so that we liaise together and might attend meetings singly or both, though holding one vote between us. We cycle in our retirement more often than we Peggy Frith use a car. I worked as a consultant ophthalmologist in Oxford Kingston Road and London.
