Description

The walk starts from and takes in the villages of Woodhouse, Quorn and Mountsorrel. It passes through Mountsorrel Quarry and around Reservoir. The walk takes in a stretch of the Leicestershire Round from Mountsorrel to Woodhouse Eaves.

Waypoints

Woodhouse Village Hall (52.72488; -1.21611) Exit car park turn right then take the first footpath on the right. Continue past the football pitch on the right and follow the track by the stream to School Lane,turn left at the road junction and continue up the hill to the outskirts of Woodhouse.

Woodhouse (52.73253; -1.20251) Turn first right onto the bridle path (Vicary Lane). Turn left towards Well House and, just before Highfields Farm, turn right onto the footpath across the field. Continue underthe railway bridge and follow the bridle way to the road. Bear right onto Buddon Lane and follow the road into the centre of Quorn

1 / 3 Quorn (52.74274; -1.16991) Turn right at the crossroads onto Leicester Road and continue to Wood Lane. Turn right and walk past Quorn Grange and the quarry entrance. Continue ahead and turn left onto the footpath on the bend in the road. (Beware of lorries and other traffic on this section).

Mountsorrel Quarry (52.73118; -1.15569) Continue forward through the quarry (use the pedestrian lights at the quarry crossing). At the end of the quarry cross Bond Lane and pass through the gate onto onto the bridleway beyond it. Follow this to join Crown Lane and continue with the quarry workings on your right to the junction with Watling Street and Cufflins Pit Lane.

Cufflins Pit Lane (52.72818; -1.14157) Leave Crown Lane and turn right by the metal gate onto Cufflins Pit Lane to join the leicesrshire Round Continue forward until you meet Bond Lane. Keep left onto Bond Lane and continue forward for a short distance and then pass through the gate on the left to take the footpath around the field. This path then runs alongside Wood Lane.

At this point either continue ahead for a short distance to Granite's Cafe at Mountsorrel Station or cross Wood Lane to Kinchley Lane.

Kinchley Lane (52.72509; -1.15773) Continue along Kinchley Lane always keeping on your left. At the end of the reservoir keep on Kinchley Lane and turn right to the junction with Rushey Lane. Continue forward over the railway bridge and take the footpath on the right immediately after the bridge.

Rushey Lane railway bridge (52.72422; -1.18226) Keep on this footpath with Rushey Fields Farm on the left. Cross Brand Lane with care and continue all the way to Woodhouse Eaves. Bear left at the school onto Meadow Lane. Turn right at the end onto Main Street to return to your start point.
