The Kentucky Museum of Arts & Crafts (KMAC) coordinated the residency. Music/Band/Chorus Teacher Amy Cuenca, BMEd, MS wrote the grant and organized the event at Crossroads. And with this project, there were many details to cover! The fifth graders social studies curriculum states that teachers cover “all the regions of Native Americans.” Since the description is very broad, we focused on Native American tribes who lived in Kentucky (Kan-tu-kee) for this miniature project. Students had already researched many aspects of Native American life when we began this 4.5 hour miniature residency (11/15 - 11/22/13). The 5th grade teachers (Ms. Dana Murphy, Ms. Toni Unser, and Mrs. Marsha Reister) did a great job keeping up daily project/steps for any students who were absent. tartin’ Small, now meeting at Jo-Ann Craft and Fabric Center in Down- ingtown,S Pennsylvania. We were very pleased to learn in October of 2013 that Jo-Ann will host our club’s monthly meetings at no cost to us, as part of their new program to support community based activities. We were delighted, as we have been meeting there for the past year, and found Jo-Ann’s a great place to meet. We like the work space, the staff is very supportive, we have easy access to supplies, and we enjoy having a well-lit and comfortable space that is hospitable to potential new members, as we hope to grow. This will be a great boost to our club’s budget, so we can spend our funds on projects and instructors. In the picture, we are working on the first stage of our project for 2013-2014, an “inside- outside” scene which each member will customize, using techniques for paving Nancy Burke, Bill and Susan Sharratt, Linda Barlow, Valerie Giles, and Ann Pennypacker.
