The Darke County Agricultural Society was formed in 1852 by a group of visionaries that knew Darke County and its leadership in agriculture needed a yearly fair. Those individuals met on the steps of the Courthouse to form the Darke County Ag Society and to set the date for the first Great Darke County Fair. That fair would be held on September 7th & 8th, 1853.

There have been many changes that have occurred over the years that have helped the Great Darke County Fair, probably nothing more significant than moving from September to 9 days in August. Along the way there have been great individuals that have gotten the fair to its record breaking status where we are today. Still one of the largest and greatest county fairs around.

At this time the board of directors for the 2017 Great Dake County Fair would like to thank all of you that help in making this fair the best that it is. To the volunteers that spend countless hours at the fair each year making sure that all the last minute items are attended to THANK YOU. To all the secretary’s and department heads that keep the shows and all the departments running so smoothly THANK YOU. To all the exhibitors who prepare for the fair by getting your exhibit ready for everyone to enjoy and view THANK YOU. To all the vendors that bring the many displays and great food THANK YOU. And lastly to the many guests and spectators that visit our fair we THANK YOU. It is because of all of you that this fair is a success. To think in 1852 those individuals thought enough ahead that having an annual fair would be so successful.

Again thank you to all that have been a part of making this year’s fair and all the past fairs a success! Brian Rismiller Fair Manager
