Love and Mercy vede come protagonisti John Cusack (Maps to the Stars, Being John Malkovich), Paul Dano (Il Petroliere, 12 Anni Schiavo), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) e Paul Giamatti (Sideways – In viaggio con Jack, The Amazing SpiderMan 2 – Il potere di Electro). Il film è diretto da Bill Pohlad (produttore nominato agli Oscar® per The Tree of Life e 12 Anni Schiavo) dal copione di Oren Moverman (Io non sono qui, Oltre le regole The Messenger) e Michael Alan Lerner. I produttori sono Bill Pohlad, Claire Rudnick Polstein (I Segreti di Osage County, The Company Men) e John Wells (I Segreti di Osage County, The Company Men). Il Direttore della fotografia è Robert D. Yeoman, ASC (Grand Budapest Hotel, Le amiche della sposa). Direttore delle scenografia è Keith P. Cunningham (The Gambler, The Social Network). Il montaggio è di Dino Jonsäter, SFK (La Talpa, Lasciami entrare). Costumi di Danny Glicker (Milk, Facciamola finita). Colonna sonora di Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Millenium Uomini che odiano le donne). I produttori esecutivi sono Ann Ruark (Revolutionary Road, Babel), Jim Lefkowitz (When the Garden Was Eden, Da Brick) e Oren Moverman.

  • A Life in Stasis: New Album Reviews
A Life In Stasis: New Album Reviews Music | Bittles’ Magazine: The music column from the end of the world With the Olympics failing to inspire, it can seem as if the only way to spend the long summer months is by playing endless rounds of tiddlywinks, or consuming copious amounts of Jammy Dodgers. But, that doesn’t have to be the case. There is a better way! For instance, you can take up ant farming, as my good friend Jeffrey has recently done, or immerse yourself in the wealth of fantastic new music which has recently come out. Personally, I would recommend the latter. By JOHN BITTLES In the following column we review some of the best new albums hitting the shelves over the coming weeks. We have the shadowy electronica of Pye Corner Audio, pop introspection by Angel Olsen, the post dubstep blues of Zomby, some sleek house from Komapkt, Kornél Kovács and Foans, the experimental genius of Gudrun Gut and Momus, and lots more. So, before someone starts chucking javelins in my direction, we had better begin… Back in 2012 Sleep Games by Pye Corner Audio quickly established itself as one of the most engaging and enthralling albums of modern times. On the record, ghostly electroncia, John Carpenter style synths, and epic, ambient soundscapes converged to create a body of work which still sounds awe-inspiringly beautiful today. After the melancholy acid of his Head Technician reissue last month, Martin Jenkins returns to his Pye Corner Audio alias late August with the haunted landscapes of the Stasis LP.

Just like Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys innovator whose gifts as singer, songwriter and producer were based on experimentation. Instead of one actor to portray Wilson, sidelined by drugs and mental illness, director Bill Pohlad gives us two, both superb in different ways. Paul Dano, who put on pounds to further the moon-faced likeness, plays Wilson during the 1960s, at the height of his artistic creativity. John Cusack, who looks distractingly unlike Wilson, plays the shaken genius during the 1980s, when he barely emerged from the pill-induced haze created by therapist Eugene Landy (a full-tilt Paul Giamatti). His rescuer is Cadillac saleswoman Melinda Ledbetter (Elizabeth Banks), who became his second wife. Does Ledbetter's consulting credit skew the film dramatically? Maybe. But the whip-smart script, by Oren Moverman and Michael Alan Lerner, neatly sidesteps cliché. So does Dino Jonsater's editing, which shuns the linear to skip between time periods until juxtaposition yields clarity. Musically, the film is a miracle, right and riveting in every detail. Just watch Wilson in the studio, coaxing musicians on "Good Vibrations" and Pet Sounds , which uses whistles, bicycle bells and barking dogs to approach what Wilson hears in his head.
