St. Mary & St. Mark Roman Catholic Church Holley & Kendall NY December 19—January 3, 2020 From the Pastor’s Desk… Dear Parishioners, Today we enter into the fourth and final week of Advent preparation to celebrate the Birthday of Jesus the Christ and also to celebrate the New Year 2021, a year of Grace and God’s blessings to the world. The liturgy of the word says that David’s posterity shall endure forever. His kingship finds its fulfillment in the son of Mary, Jesus the Christ and to Him be glory and praise. Since Christmas is at hand, I would like to take this moment to wish you all a Very Grace filled Christmas and the blessings of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the Almighty Father 2021to the entire world and all of us. In spite of Covid19 people were able to participate in the daily Masses through livestream or in the church. Our church was kept open throughout the days for people to come and pray. Our Monday adoration was kept opened as usual. In many ways we are thankful to God for what we were able to do during the Advent season very especially Halloween for the kids and the Christmas Bazaar for adults to show forth to the world that Jesus is the King of Kings and the Prince of Peace and the cause of our Joy. We also feel very glad that the Covid19 vaccine is started to come and assuring hope that we will overcome this pandemic very soon and everyone will be set free from fears and anxieties of covid19. It is said that St. Francis of Assisi was the one who first began live Nativity Scene on Christmas Eve of 1223. Later on, it spread all over the world to proclaim the Birth of Jesus in Churches, homes and streets with lights and displays. Pope Honorius III is credited with giving the first blessing of a Christmas Nativity set and approved the Franciscan Religious order in 1223. Following the footsteps of the saint, we need to encourage our children to make a nativity scene at home and learn the spiritual lessons that it offers to everyone and make known to the neighbors and the world Christmas message of Peace and Love that God loves us all through His Son Jesus Christ and want us to be members of the Family of God. The custom of sending Christmas cards first began in England in 1843 when Sir Henry Cole sent cards to friends to wish Merry Christmas. The first American cards were made in 1875 by Louis Prang who began by holding contests each year for the best designs. We also assure our prayers to all our parishioners and family members and friends a very happy Christmas and blessings of JMJ that the year of 2021 may bring us many fold blessings of God, set us all free from sin, sickness, family disputes and slavery to addictions, and bring love, peace and prosperity to everyone. May Christmas increase our Faith and Devotion in the Church, and bless our diocese and our parish community with new aspirations and growth along with our new Bishop Michael Fisher for the years to come. I wish you all A Very Happy CHRISTMAS and A Grace filled NEW YEAR 2021. May God bless us all.
