2020 USC Women’s Lacrosse 2020 Honors and Awards PAC IT UP: 2020 marks the third season of Pac-12 lacrosse. In 2018, the Conference of Champions made lacrosse the 13th women’s sport sponsored by the Pac-12. Kerrigan Miller The addition of Arizona State brought the league to the minimum six teams to ILWomen.com Preseason All-American receive an automatic qualifier berth into the NCAA championship. The first-ever Pac-12 Lacrosse Championship was held at Prentup Field; hosted by Colorado. Stanford claimed the first Pac-12 title and USC won the second in 2019. Previously a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, from the end of 2015 to the middle of the 2018 season, USC won a school-record 22 consecutive conference games. The Trojans were undefeated in the MPSF in 2016 (9-0) and 2017 (8-0). USC won the 2016 and 2017 MPSF championships. USC is 6-0 all-time in league openers and earned its first victory in a Pac-12 opener, 14-3, against Arizona State in 2018.

PAC-12 POW-WOW: USC players own 12 Pac-12 Player of the Week awards and six different Trojans received honors in 2019. Emily Concialdi (Feb. 25), Sophia Donovan (Mar. 18), and Kelsey Huff (Apr. 1) were each named for the offensive award for the first times in their careers. Kerrigan Miller (Mar. 11) earned her second-career nod and became the first player in league history to receive both the defensive and offensive awards in her career. Riley Hertford (Mar. 18, Apr. 1) and Jackie Gilbert (Apr. 8, Apr. 22) are the Trojans’ two multiple award winners from last season. USC swept the awards on both March 18 and April 1.

POLL POSITION: The Trojans open 2020 ranked No. 16 in the IWLCA Coaches’ preseason poll. USC finished at No. 17 in the final poll of the 2019 season and has spent 56 straight weeks ranked in the poll; dating back to the 2016 preseason poll. USC spent a school-record 26 consecutive weeks in the top 10 from March 21, 2016 to Feb. 19, 2018. USC is 20-30 all-time against ranked opponents; 9-13 against teams ranked in the top 10 and 2-10 against teams ranked among the top five.

EAST COAST BIAS: USC has played 28 games on the East Coast (in the Eastern Time zone) and holds a 13-15 overall record in those games. The Trojans own wins over Dartmouth (2), Notre Dame (2), LIU Brooklyn, Marist, Stetson, Florida, Virginia Tech, and Boston University in true road games. USC defeated James Madison at a neutral location in the 2015 NCAA first round in Durham, N.C.; beat Ohio State in a game played in New Jersey; and took down Jacksonville in Gainesville, Fla., in the first round of the 2017 NCAA tournament.

SISTER SITUATION: Six pairs of sisters have suited up for the Trojans. Fraternal twins Glade and Shannon Nugent (2014-16) were the first and played in a total of 10 games together in three seasons. All-American Amanda Johansen (2013-16) was on the Trojans’ inaugural team and graduated before younger sister Kelly Johansen joined the team in 2017. The elder Johansen also served as one of Troy’s assistant coaches in 2018. In the same year, midfielderKaeli Huff was joined by sister Kelsey Huff. The Huffs comprise only the second sister pair to be on the same roster for the Trojans. Gabby McMahon (2014-17) was an All-MPSF attacker before younger sister Izzy McMahon (Isabel) joined the Women of Troy in 2018 following her transfer from Army. The two McMahons are also the older sisters of Daniella McMahon, who is a senior at Pac-12 rival Stanford. In 2020, the fifth and sixth pair of Trojan sisters will take the field. Junior defender Devon Heaney will be joined by younger sister Ella Heaney, an attacker; and twins Delaney and Savannah Sweitzer will take the field together as the third and fourth sister duos to be on the same USC roster together.

HAT TRICK MAGIC: Nine current Trojans are members of the program’s hat-trick club. Senior midfielder Kerrigan Miller co-leads the group with junior midfielder Kelsey Huff. They each have 14-career hat tricks to share team-high honors and rank sixth all-time at USC. Senior attacker Izzy McMahon is next with nine and ranks ninth. Senior midfielder Kaeli Huff has eight. Graduate attacker Emily Concialdi has recorded seven-career hat tricks and junior attacker Sophia Donovan has five-career hat-trick games. Senior attacker Hope Anhut and sophomore attacker Katie Ramsay each have two and sophomore midfielder Erin Bakes has one. USC’s all-time leader is Michaela Michael, who finished her career (2014-17) with 41 games of three goals or more.

STATE YOUR CASE: USC’s roster is made up of players from 11 different states. In a bi-coastal battle, New York takes the edge with 11 players from the Empire State on the 2020 Trojan squad. California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania can each claim four Women of Troy. There are two Trojans from Florida, Oregon, and Texas; while one player comes from Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, and Virginia.

RED, WHITE, AND BLUE FOR TWO: All-American midfielder Kerrigan Miller was chosen as a 2020 USC Poll Progression member of the 2019 U.S. Lacrosse Women’s Senior National Training Team along with former all-league goalie Gussie Johns. Miller has experience with the U19 team and helped Team Week IWLCA ILWomen Nike RPI USA take silver at the 2015 FIL Women’s World Cup in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was selected to the 2019 MAR 9 preseason third team a year ago. MAR 16 MAR 23 HOME, SWEET HOME: The Women of Troy are 46-13 all-time in home games and are 42-11 MAR 30 at McAlister Field. Between 2015 and 2018, the Trojans won 23 straight games on McAlister APR 6 Field. Including two wins at the LA Memorial Coliseum, USC claimed 25 consecutive home APR 13 victories during the impressive streak. APR 20 LET’S GET IT STARTED: USC is 4-3 all-time in season openers.
