One Vision, One District, One College 22 My mother’s framed graduation picture from Wayne County Community College District was proudly displayed in our home. I fondly remember accompanying her to school. It didn’t take long before I felt like I knew everyone at the campus. In fact, this is one my favorite childhood memories. You could say that I was destined for WCCCD.

While attending Pershing High School in Detroit, sadly, my mom passed away from breast cancer. Her death impacted our family profoundly. I played on the high school basketball team and my goal was always to continue my education and play basketball in college. I was young, grieving, and impressionable. I made some poor choices which resulted in incarceration for a nonviolent crime. However, because WCCCD was always a part of my childhood, I never stopped dreaming of college and dreaming of my love of basketball.

Upon my release, I found myself jobless and homeless but continued to dream. I was fortunate to meet WCCCD Basketball Coach, Rogeric Turner at the St. Celia Basket- ball League in Detroit. My life began to turn around. I had hope! With his support and encouragement I enrolled in SHAUN DUNCAN WCCCD and joined the Wildcats Basketball Team. This provided me with structure, study space, an academic support system and a basketball family.

I am now a proud 2014 graduate with an Associates Degree. I was a member of the 2014 Eastern Conference MI-MCCAA and Region 12 Championship Teams! Thanks to WCCCD and Coach Turner, after graduation, I received an athletic scholarship to Madonna University. I now am completing my bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. I am married, have a daughter and a son on the way.

WCCCD was my lifeline when I needed one. I would tell others pursuing a college degree, that determination and time management are the keys. It’s not about your past, but it is about your future.

The Website Redesign Taskforce kicked off the Content Management System (CMS) implementation phase of the project with our CMS vendor, Ingeniux. The CMS is the application system that will be used to manage the day-to-day operations of the website. It organizes and stores all website content; page language, graphics and multimedia elements. The CMS manages all workflows relating to requests to modify or create new content, approving change requests, archiving expired content and much more. The major implementation tasks are:

• Requirements definition and wireframes

DR. RANDALL MILLER SHARES LEADERSHIP THOUGHTS WITH EXECUTIVE TEAM

The Importance of

Recovering Quickly

The ability to recover quickly is one important key to success in one’s career and in life. It is valuable to learn this lesson and to acquire this skill in our early years. We will all face many setbacks and defeats on life’s path, and how we handle them will help to shape our character and our future successes.

The size and magnitude of our failures is far less important than our recoverability: “what psychologists refer to as the process by which people regain functioning after a negative emotional event,” notes Dr. Henry Cloud in his book Integrity. “When something bad happens, are they knocked Book Recommendation off their horse, unable to get back up? Or, do they bounce back quickly?”

Thinking back on our lives, it is likely we have all had Know-How: The 8 Skills that many setbacks and, hopefully, many successes. Separate People Who Perform While it is easy to be hopeful, show good From Those Who Don’t judgement, and think clearly after victories and when things are going well; but, do we have the personal strength to face our defeats and move Written by Ram Charan forward with confidence and exercise good judgement?

The ability to accept the challenges of reality helps us to separate ourselves from defeat by not allowing failure to define us. If you have the confidence to keep your identity intact, you will not need constant approval and affirmation and the trappings of success to know who you are or to regulate how you feel. Granted, that is a tall order, but it also keeps you from becoming part of the problem, and it helps greatly in your ability to recover quickly when life throws its inevitable challenges your way.
