The Evolution of the Concept of Public Service and the Transition in Spanish Television Carmen Ciller Tenreiro* SUMMARY The paper examines the presence of the public interest in contemporary Span- ish television medium. For many years there was a solidly-held belief that there are important public assets (principally educational, cultural and de- mocratic) which could only be provided by public television. In recent years in Spain, after the Transition process, and with democracy having been consoli- dated, a new period of maturity in television, in which society itself demands and expects that television in general, both public and private, guarantees a series of values and public assets. In the first part, the author explains what are the origins of television in Spain: from what is the nature of public service and legislation that supports it (where are established the public interest criteria that must always prevail in the public television medium, and private television later) to the development and consolidation of the television system in Spain with the arrival of regional television, private television channels and pay television platforms. In the sec- ond part of the paper, the situation of the programme listings of general public and private television channels which operate in Spain is analyzed through the case study of the first week of March 2009. The study of prime time enables to know which are the most important genres of television programming in Spain and what television preserve the public interest. -

The current study investigated Supernanny Jo Frost’s realisations of (t) as glottal or non-glottal towards British and American adults and children. Frost was found to style-shift to child-directed speech (CDS) when addressing children, which is interpreted in terms of communication accommodation theory as a communicative strategy to enhance clarity. Frost generally avoided convergence towards her American (and British) interlocutors, such that her style-shifting was found to be conditioned less by addressee nationality than by addressee age. I argue that this avoidance of convergence was motivated by her desire to construct an authentic, authoritative identity, which she achieved through her exploitation of particular indexical meanings associated with [t] and [ʔ]. 1 Introduction Individuals have the capacity to alter their speech in a number of subtle and more pronounced ways depending on the interactional context. Tesis para optar el Título de LICENCIADA EN PUBLICIDAD Presentada por CYNTHIA INGRID CABREJOS CALIENES Lima 2007 INTRODUCCIÓN El presente trabajo de investigación lleva como título: “La construcción discursiva del espectador en los reality shows. El caso de Gran Hermano del Pacífico”. Partiendo de las repercusiones sociales que este formato ha tenido en el plano social e individual, me interesa centrar mi análisis en esta nueva forma de hacer televisión que explota día a día la publicidad de la intimidad y el entretenimiento como recursos válidos para ganar audiencias. Todos sabemos que la televisión ejerce una fuerte influencia en sus televidentes, especialmente en la forma en la que estos se relacionan con su entorno. Sin duda, las imágenes de la televisión de hoy representan a su espectador, en la forma en que este concibe su sociedad y además, en cuáles son sus hábitos de consumo. Por otro lado, tenemos que la forma en la que estos reality shows presentan los objetos que exhiben y cuánto exhiben de ellos, es muestra de su papel por construir a un tipo de espectador ideal. Como un libro que ha sido escrito para un lector que idealmente interpreta y comprende los contenidos de la forma que lo ha concebido el autor, los reality shows establecen marcas enunciativas para atribuirle a su espectador diferentes competencias que finalmente terminen por fidelizarlo y engancharlo al drama. Precisamente la pregunta que esta investigación pretende responder es cómo el discurso de los realities (concentrándose particularmente en el de Gran Hermano) construye a un espectador ideal omnisciente y omnividente. -

Cicero (Eden II Programs) Abstract: Popular television series such as Nanny 911 and Supernanny that deal with unruly children and their parents have portrayed that intense short-term behavioral interventions improve children’s disruptive behavior. Although much is known about the efficacy of parent training in methods of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) to reduce children’s behavior problems, less is known about the effectiveness of these short- term interventions in the home for parents of children with autism. The following study examines the effectiveness of an in-home, short-term parent-training model in treating behavior problems in children with an autism spectrum disorder. Participants were parents and their children ages 6-18 who displayed one or more disruptive behaviors such as aggression, noncompliance, or tantrums. A 7-10 session ABA parent- training model was employed and consisted of behavioral recommendations and procedures, therapist modeling, and parental practice with the techniques. Results showed that disruptive behaviors were significantly reduced from baseline levels after just 2 sessions of intervention. Further improvements in behavior were noted after the full course of treatment and at follow-up. 2. Naturalistic Language Intervention for at-risk siblings of children with ASD. Mothers on Mothers: Maternal Readings of Popular Television
From Supernanny to Gilmore Girls, from Katie Price to Holly Willoughby, a MOTHERS ON wide range of examples of mothers and motherhood appear on television today. Drawing on questionnaires completed by mothers across the UK, this MOTHERS ON MOTHERS book sheds new light on the varied and diverse ways in which expectant, new MATERNAL READINGS OF POPULAR TELEVISION and existing mothers make sense of popular representations of motherhood on television. The volume examines the ways in which these women find pleasure, empowerment, escapist fantasy, displeasure and frustration in popular depictions of motherhood. The research seeks to present the MATERNAL READINGS OF POPULAR TELEVISION voice of the maternal audience and, as such, it takes as its starting REBECCA FEASEY point those maternal depictions and motherwork representations that are highlighted by this demographic, including figures such as Tess Daly and Katie Hopkins and programmes like TeenMom and Kirstie Allsopp’s oeuvre. Roberts May 2017 ii Abstract The purpose of my qualitative case study research was to examine the perceptions of children/teens, parents, teachers, and administrators around the school experiences of students with life-threatening food-induced allergies and anaphylaxis. In addition, I wondered how participants‘ lived experiences might serve to ameliorate educational policies and practices in schools so that all students who have food allergies and anaphylaxis can feel safe, cared for, and be available for learning. Using a purposive sample of convenience, 10 participants (including 3 children/teens, 4 parents, 2 teachers, and 1 administrator), were invited and agreed to participate in audio-recorded in-depth individual interviews around my study topic. My interpretation and analysis of interview data depicted complex connections between and among the following themes: allergy identity, safe-care strategies, labels and labelling, allergy communications, and ethical disconnects. Three recurring subthemes—time, trust, and transition, also emerged and are threaded throughout. At times, intense emotions punctuate the discourse as empathetic signposts for the reader.
