AGM Minutes 2 February 2020 10.26.05 AM AFLUA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING SUNDAY 2 FEBRUARY 2020 HELD at IKON PARK – CARLTON 1. Opening and Welcome President Brett Rosebury welcomed members and life members in attendance and declared the meeting open at 2.46pm. 2. Minutes of previous Annual General Meeting The minutes of the 2018 Annual General Meeting were confirmed, as circulated and published on the AFLUA website. Moved: Steve Piperno Seconded: David Flegg 4. 2019 Year Book 4.1 President’s Report Brett Rosebury (BR) referred to his report, which was circulated prior to the AGM to all members and life members. He outlined some key initiatives that had occurred during the year: The AFLUA office conducted a survey of members, life members and AFLW members. These results were then used by the Executive Committee to assess priorities and service expectations of member and how services and programs were being delivered. The AFLUA Executive Committee then used these survey results to develop a strategic plan for the association which sets out the strategic directions of the association for 2019-2024. The strategic plan is being used to help inform the AFLUA Executive in the recruitment of a new CEO. BR also mentioned the Executive Committee had reviewed the AFLUA budget and had put in place a number of new initiatives including a revamped Fiona McBurney program, an increased focus on investments and an expanded welfare service. He stressed the Executive Committee was mindful that it would like to provide as many services at minimal cost to members but that this was not always possible. BR acknowledged the work of the AFLUA office in supporting umpires throughout the year and the amount of work that is done behind the scenes. He also thanked Peter Howe for his services to umpiring over a number of years and especially since taking over as CEO 8 years ago. He advised an appropriate send-off was being organized for PH. BR thanked the AFL Umpiring Department for their efforts in recent times. He especially thanked Grant Williams and Steve Hocking for their open lines of communication and the support they’d provided to umpiring during the year. BR highlighted that the recent signing of the AFLW employment agreement for season 2020 was another example of the work being undertaken by the AFLUA. He advised the AFLUA office was also holding teleconference with AFLW umpires in the next couple of weeks. In closing, BR thanked his Executive Committee in 2019 and specifically thanked Sam Hay and Tim Lougoon for their two years of service and Steve Williams for his recent contributions. He also thanked our Interstate Representatives for their contribution during the year. 5. CEO’s Report PH referred to his report in the year book. He highlighted the following two points: (1) The increased workload associated with the AFLW competitions and that this workload will continue to increase in coming years as the completion expands to include 18 teams across Australia. In 2020, there will be 92 contracted AFLW umpires compared to 68 in 2019. (2) The improved working relationship with the AFL which he specifically attributed to Grant Williams and Steve Hocking. He especially thanked Grant for the unique relationship that he had with all umpires and his genuine care for each and every umpire across Australia. 6. Financial Report In accordance with the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012, the Financial Statements for year ended 31 October 2019 (as previously circulated) are to be considered and received as audited by Grant Thornton Audit Pty Ltd. Moved: Sean Burton Seconded: Ron Bailey 7. Appointment of Auditor for 2020 The AFLUA recommends the appointment of Grant Thornton Audit Pty Ltd as the association’s auditor for 2020. Moved: Tim Lougoon Seconded: Brett Rogers 8. Special Business a. Special Resolution – Confirmation of Life Members The final confirmation of life membership of the following umpires requires a simple majority vote in favour of the following umpires: Brett Dalgleish and Rod Hanckel. The Special Resolution confirming the result of the vote was carried in accordance with Clause 5 (b) (v) of AFLUA Rules. Presentations of Life Memberships will be made at an appropriate event later in the year. b. Special Resolution – the AFLUA Executive has recommended that the Rules of the AFLUA Inc. ‘the Rules’ be changed to incorporate an additional position of Vice-President to be included as part of the AFLUA Executive Committee. The special resolution was carried, and the constitution will be changed to reflect the resolution. 9. Election of Office Bearers – 2020 Nominations were received for the following positions in accordance with the constitution by the due date: 1. President 2. Executive Members BR advised that as there was only one nomination for each position, the following appointments were confirmed: President – Brett Rosebury EXecutive Members – David Harris (Field), Michael Marantelli (Boundary) and Steve Williams (Goal) Vice-President – expressions of interest were called for the AFLUA Vice-President position, subject to the above Special Resolution passing. One expression was received from Adam Wojcik. BR advised that as there was only one nomination, Adam Wojcik was appointed. 10. General Business There was no general business. 11. Conclusion PH thanked members for their attendance. He also acknowledged and congratulated Ron Bailey for his Lifetime Achievement award. Brett Rosebury declared the AGM closed at 3.04pm.
