    USA Shooting NATIONAL OLYMPIC RECORDS As of June 2021 USA Shooting recognizes national records for each ISSF, special event, and developmental events recognized by USA Shooting. For the junior category, records will be recognized for Junior (open), J2, and J3. Senior, Intermediate Senior, and Veteran Senior category records will also be recognized. To be recognized as a national record, the score must be fired in a USA Shooting recognized special or developmental event or an ISSF event in a USA Shooting sanctioned competition. The competition must have been conducted on facilities that meet all technical requirements for distances, timing, etc. The competitor who fired the record score must be a current USA Shooting member and have used only equipment that completely fulfills all requirements for that event as per the General Technical Rules. If equipment control was not conducted at the beginning of the competition, the competition director may conduct a special equipment control to certify that the competitor’s equipment fulfilled these conditions. National records may not be set in leagues or postal competitions. Individual records may be set in those events that contain a minimum of 5 competitors for any event. Any event fired at a reduced distance with reduced distance targets, must follow all requirements of the official event. (i.e. 50-meter events reduced to 50-feet must follow requirements for the 50-meter event.) Team records have been retired. National records will be recognized if the score is fired in an international competition supervised by the ISSF. The competitor must have been a member of the USA Shooting sponsored team for that activity.

    HIGH LEVEL SPORT IN THE GERMAN ARMED FORCES - ORGANIZATION AND IMPACT ON MILITARY SPORT Colonel G.S.Christian KRAMP, Germany It is a great honour for me to give some information to this audience from the German point of view. My briefing covers two areas: While part one explains everything around the subject "High Level Sport in the German Armed Forces" the second part will very briefly touch the given or assumed consequences on military sport and on CISM activities. I am presenting my view with the background as Chief of the German Delegation to CISM and as Division Chief for Training in the German Armed Forces Office, being also responsible for all kind of sport in the armed forces. Although I tried to make it as short as possible the lecture might slightly extend the foreseen timeframe. Be patient. Before I'll go into details I'd like to make some preliminary remarks which will set the frame: 1. Promotion of High Level Sports in our Armed Forces is not a core function. That means our Armed Forces are designed for selfdefence,, out-of-area mission etc. but not for promotion of High Level Sport. This has direct influence on the funds available. 2. Sports for all is of great importance for the military fitness of the individual soldier, high level sport is not. 3. It must be allowed to question if the input-output-relation doesn't fulfill the expectations. 4. I'd like to recall what kind of vision and goals we ourselves have set up as the guideline for all our activities.

    1968 U.S. Olympic Team Oral History Project: Transcript of Interview Interviewer: Thomas Hunt Narrator: Colonel Jim Moore, 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games, Modern Pentathlon Interview Date: February 7, 2011 Transcription: March 3, 2011 begin recording [Thomas Hunt:] As we start, I had a few, sort of, just entry biographical questions and we wanted to get a sense for how you got involved first in the modern pentathlon and where you grew up and things like that. And I should say that this interview is to get as much information as we can about your vision for the legacy of the 1968 Games and what they mean to you. So I am going to be silent as much as possible so that you can talk as much as possible, if that makes sense? [Jim Moore:] (laughs) Okay. [TH:] So anyway, how did you get involved in the modern pentathlon? [JM:] Well, it’s a sport not too many people know about and I had followed the Olympics as a child and I didn’t know anything about it. I went to University of Pittsburgh on a track scholarship. I had to take ROTC because in 1953 the draft was on and I could be drafted. So I took ROTC because of my scholarship. They didn’t want to train me for a couple of years and then I would be drafted out. So I received a commission upon graduation. Went to Germany as an Army Cav officer in 1957 and the Cold War was pretty hot then. I was on border duty and qualifying tankers at Grafenwoehr and I said, There’s got to be a better way than this.

Zakynthinaki2, Carlos Alberto Cordente1, Jorge García‐González3 The ability to stabilize the gun, a crucial factor for performance in air pistol Olympic shooting, is thought to be strongly related to the muscular work of the shooter´s shoulder and forearm. The objective of the present study was to confirm this relationship by analysing the influence of maximal finger flexor forces and maximal isometric shoulder force on performance in female air pistol shooting. Twenty‐three female pistol shooters participated in the study. Handgrip and shoulder force data were recorded under competition conditions, during the official training time of national Spanish championships on the day previous to the competition and at the official training stands. Performance was measured as the total score of 40 shots at competition. Linear regressions between performance and age, weight, height, training experience, body mass index (BMI), mean and maximal finger flexor and shoulder forces were calculated. Significant correlations were found between performance and a) training hours b) peak finger flexor force relative to the BMI, and c) peak isometric force of the shoulder abduction relative to the BMI. The study concludes that there is a statistically significant correlation between performance and muscular forces exerted by the athletes relative to their BMI. Appropriate muscular strength training programs are therefore necessary in female air pistol Olympic shooting. Key words: score, deltoid force, dynamometer, BMI, performance.
